How Governor Rick Scott Is Preventing Eligible U.S. Citizens From Voting In Florida
Source: ThinkProgress
The Miami Herald reports that Floridas quest to identify and remove non-U.S. citizens from the voter rolls was started at the direct urging of Gov. Rick Scott. Scott instructed his former Secretary of State, Kurt Browning, to compile a list of people who were registered in Florida but ineligible to vote.
Browning struggled to aquire accurate data and eventually resigned his post in February. Scott moved forward with the effort anyway, and in recent days the state sent a list to county election supervisors of more than 2,600 people who have been identified as non-U.S. citizens.
According to election supervisors, the list is riddled with inaccuracies. Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Mike Ertel, a Republican, posted a picture on Twitter earlier this week of a voter on the list falsely identified as ineligible, with his passport:

imo there is only one reason not to have verifiable voting in a democracy.

(11,175 posts)Verifiable voting doesn't address the problem of preventing qualified voters from being able to vote in the first place.

(9,314 posts)He must win Florida.
With all of the seniors living there, I keep wondering why the Dems do not expose more to Floridians about what the Republicans plan to do to entitlements. It seems just helping those seniors gain a knowledge of what the Ryan plan does to Medicare could turn the tide against Romney in Florida.
Can anyone explain this to me? How a Republican could possibly win in Florida with their determination to cut entitlements (or eliminate them)?

I'm from Florida and do know there are a lot of wealthy retired people who are terrified that somebody is going to take their money and give it to others - that group will be strong for Romney. Republican voters are all about FEAR - and the party works it in a whole lot of ways.
Dems have a legitimate reason to scare people about entitlements - but where are they?

So as DNC chair, she has the final say over what ads play there? Is that how it is?
I only ask because I talked to an high school friend who is well-to-do and now lives in Sarasota. When I told him what the Republicans were planning to do to Medicare, he asked, "Is there any way to stop this?" I told him the seniors in Florida voting for Obama could have a big influence, but I cannot understand why it is a virtual tie down there.

(13,616 posts)As a florida dem, and as someone at the national level, she could set the tone, but Florida Democrats are famous for being weaksauce people whose main appeal is "we are not those crazy GOP." Look at it this way, we are very likely to accept Charlie crist as a democrat, because we cannot stand Rick Scott. Alex Sink, who was the last Dem candidate, lost by a margin so thin you neded a microscope yet she laid down asnd got herself a nice cushy job.

(9,314 posts)that no one calls them on. Someone with some credibility, perhaps President Obama himself, should make a commercial outlining the distinct differences between the Republicans' plans for these programs and the Democrats'. It should be a factual outline which gives credible links and other sources for citizens to check themselves. Somehow, someway, the seniors in Florida need to be spoon-fed the literal truth; and should a miracle happen and that occur, they will turn on Romney like a very angry tornado. And since Florida is a must-have for Romney, the election could be decided there on that one issue.

Rick Scott and the GOP are trying to sabotage what's left of our democracy.

(23 posts)Boy did Governor Rick Scott nail it when he, according to the Miami Herald article, said people lie. Im glad to see the state cleaning up the voter rolls. However a bit of research reveals that the consensus amongst many is that instances of voter fraud seem to be relatively few and far between. Conversely, what cant be denied is that in the current climate gamesmanship and outright cheating runs rife amongst those with the most to gain/lose. That being stated, election fraud is a very real threat. That being the case, the charge that Id really like to see Governor Scott, Secretary of State Ken Detzner, and all the rest of Governor Scotts immediate cohorts lead is the charge to excise corrupt actors from the election process. Right now in Alachua County there is a proven criminally-corrupt judgea judge by the name of David P. Kreiderthat has been illegally entangled in Floridas 2012 election process. The state is aware of this undeniable fact yet it has continued to improperly display a multi-dimensional lack of concern. The public and all law-abiding public servants should be aware of this as well.
See the below message (information was updated on 05/07/2012) for more insight into this matter. The comment was previously posted elsewhere but it is fitting that I share it here.
Additionally, to all vigilant watchers I say keep on keeping your eyes peeled. Fuhgeddabout hittin the fan, you'll soon see that s#!t is on the fan
and it stinks. Unfortunately methinks things will only get worse before they improve.
---------------------------------------------------
Next stop Gainesville, Fla. (i.e. "Gator Country" . Why specifically?, you ask.
Because in Alachua County, within recent months, numerous and egregious violations of law have been committed that warrant multiple criminal prosecutions and other severe government sanctions. These crimes have had all types of deleterious effects including, but not limited to, once again placing the integrity of Floridas election results (for 2012) in jeopardy. A few of the things that are central to this issue are:
1
David P. Kreider {Mr. Kreider, a proven criminal, is a corrupt Alachua County Court judge. This criminally-corrupt judge also happens to be both (a) one of the circuit's former prosecutors and (b) a former Division Chief for the State Attorney's Office.}
2
Robert Roundtree, Chief Judge for Floridas 8th Judicial Circuit (he recently replaced the embattled Martha Lott who resigned from her chief judge post subsequent to becoming embroiled in this scandal which has started to implode; her resignation was announced on 04/09/2012 and was reported to have gone into effect on 04/05/2012)
3
Spencer Mann, Chief Investigator for the State Attorneys Office of Floridas 8th Judicial Circuit
4
William "Bill" Cervone, State Attorney for Florida's 8th Judicial Circuit
5
The conspiracy / scandal related to the "Gibson Case"
6
The two irrefutable reports and extensive corroborating evidence that is in the possession of agencies, including those within Floridas 8th Judicial Circuit (and the aforementioned Spencer Mann and Chief Judges office). The comprehensive reports and evidence span a total of more than 100 pages and in-depthly detail criminal activities carried out under the color of law by criminal/judge David P. Kreider and various other co-conspirators.

This is the gateway to serious corruption and a major cover-up attempt.
Note:
Inexplicably, at this critical time, the ability to update the completely truthful complaint that is displayed at the above listed initial complaints.com url has been blocked (this problem just arose in mid-May 2012). Complaints.com was notified in hopes that the issue would be remedied promptly (especially before the involved co-conspirators made any additional damaging/wrongful maneuvers or inappropriately benefited from the dissemination of any additional misinformation outside of scrutiny). For the most part, as of now (05/24/2012), to the best of my knowledge the report at the initial url is up-to-date and the involved co-conspirators haven't executed any additional illicit maneuvers that haven't already at least been touched upon in that initial complaints.com webpage complaint. On 05/19/2012 complaints.com indicated that it would no longer be possible to update the information at the well-publicized initial webpage/url and essentially that the complaint would have to be duplicated and that all future updates would have to be made at a new complaints.com webpage/url.
