Rapper tells Sanders crowd to make sure others 'have felt the Bern'

Source: The Hill

By Caitlin Yilek

Hip-hop star Killer Mike introduced Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at a campaign rally in Atlanta on Monday by quoting some of his rap lyrics.

“I don’t trust the church or the government. A Democrat, a Republican. A pope or a bishop or those other men,” the rapper said in a speech before Sanders took the stage.

“But after spending 5 hours with someone who has spent the last 50 years radically fighting for your rights and mine,” Killer Mike continued, “I can tell you that I am very proud tonight to announce the next president of the United States, Sen. Bernie Sanders.”

Sanders and Killer Mike dined together before the candidate’s rally.

Hillary Clinton Is Overwhelmingly Popular Among Black Americans

Black Americans view Hillary Clinton far more favorably than they do any other presidential contender, according to a Gallup survey released Monday.

Eighty percent of black adults have a favorable impression of the Democratic front-runner and former secretary of state. Even when taking into account the percentage who view Clinton unfavorably, she still has a 68 percent net favorability rating among black Americans, a group that analysts at the Cook Political Report have called the "overlooked key to 2016."

Clinton's favorability rating among black Americans eclipses those of the other Democratic hopefuls. The next highest rating belongs to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is running for president as a Democrat and has a net 23 percent favorability rating among black adults. Sanders' relationship with the black community has come under heightened scrutiny since the start of his presidential campaign. Black Lives Matters activists recently shut down a Seattle rally where the senator was scheduled to speak.

Black Americans aren't as enthusiastic about the Republican field. Almost all of the GOP candidates have negative net favorability ratings among black poll respondents. The lone exception is retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who has a 4 percent net favorability rating in that group.

Hillary is just along for the ride. If she was running as Hillary Rodham, she would be running neck and neck with O'Malley (Sorry, MOM's). All she has is name recognition. After all, Bill Clinton was cool.........he played the saxophone, charismatic and quite the ladies man, so some of that 'glitter' must have rubbed on her, right?

As the MSM has been ignoring Bernie for months, and giving as much press as possible to Hillary, you have to wonder, how come Bernie is doing so well?

does not see. You have to have cable to see anything on CNN, MSNBC or (I think) Fox News. He has only recently broken out into the media. Hell, for a while there it seemed that only Hillary and O'Malley were running.

People on this site are political wonks, or wouldn't be here. I would love to know how many mentions Hillary has had compared to Bernie or even O'Malley, in the MSM. And, let's not forget, Hillary is a known commodity has been for over 20 years. Bernie, hasn't even been in the national public eye for a year yet.

And, yes, yes, people can get access to the Internet, but the primary is just not on their minds at the moment, they are trying to make ends meet IRL.

Oh, and I loved the first to 'accomplishments' that Hillary achieved that some one listed. First Lady of Arkansas and First Lady of the United States, as if she was the one who ran the governments. LOL

I haven't seen any of these shows except for Meet the Press once in the days of Tim Russert (and I actually LIKE politics).

I think the average voter doesn't really start paying much attention to the election cycle until later anyway. Right now it's all about getting your name out there... Getting some name recognition. Setting yourself apart from your peers. O'Malley has stalled. Jim Webb and Lincoln Chaffey found out they were DOA during the first debate. Sanders has gained traction. That's about all you can hope for at this stage when you start out with such poor visibility.

Right now, Bernie Sanders name means something because he's been consistent for 30+ years. Sure, people are only now paying attention on a larger scale now, but all the video is there to prove it. He's branded himself well and become a symbol of sorts for progressives and millennials. I wouldn't underestimate the power of a strong brand.

Meanwhile, I still don't know what Clinton stands for. She seems like she'll say anything to get elected, and that is not a trait I want in my president.

Clinton has demonstrated a know-how in communicating to black voters, whether it be bringing black celebrities or civil rights leaders to South Carolina on her behalf or organizing on the local level.
...
One day, talk show celeb Star Jones is parachuting into a Baptist church to stir up excitement for Clinton. On another, civil rights luminary Andrew Young is stumping at a civil rights roundtable. In nearby Atlanta, another Martin Luther King Jr. confidant, John Lewis, introduced Clinton at a rally.
...
Most every nationally prominent black leader who has endorsed a candidate has lined up with Clinton. Her campaign has been laying groundwork in South Carolina for months, holding 1,100 organizing meetings, eclipsing the efforts of her rival. Sanders may argue that is just the establishment doing the establishment thing, but the latest poll suggests it is working. Clinton is supported by 70% of the state’s Democrats, and her support jumps 10 additional points among African American Democrats.
...
The communication barrier for Sanders, a 74-year-old Brooklyn-raised Jewish socialist, was most pronounced when he was confronted over the summer by Black Lives Matter protesters, who demanded he repeat their mantra. Sanders lectured the protesters about his record on civil rights. The exchange did not go well.

What was so important and newsworthy about an established endorser telling Bernie supporters to "make sure others 'have felt the Bern'"? You pulled this out of the Hill's campaign blog, not its News tab. TOS for LBN: "Important news of national interest only. No analysis or opinion pieces. No duplicates. News stories must have been published within the last 12 hours..."

You have this post in GDP as well.

It is not Hillary supporters who are desperate. We are not trying to fill every corner of DU with Hillary posts.
