Taos ski patrol turns down union

Source: ABQJournal

By Mark Oswald

SANTA FE – Members of the ski patrol at Taos Ski Valley split 22-22 in a vote on whether to unionize, and the tie means the unionization effort failed.

“It couldn’t get any closer,” Al Kogler of the Communication Workers of America said of last week’s vote.

He said the CWA believes in a democratic process for workers to determine their future and respects the ski patrollers’ decision.

Rey Deveaux, a 43-year veteran of the ski patrol and among those who helped organize the unionization effort, noted that 95 percent of ski patrol members had signed the petition that led to the union vote.
