Bullish Generals' Message To Cameron: We Can Smash ISIS iN 14 Days
Source: The London Express 00:07 GMT Sun, Nov 22, 2015
Army commanders have made it clear to David Cameron in the wake of the Paris terror attacks that decisive action could rid the world of the evil Islamic cult.
Military commanders are also urging greater use of British officers to train local Kurdish fighters and have a firmer hand in tactics. Last night it emerged senior generals are preparing for the possibility.
Discussions are now under way here towards the deployment of troops, said one UN security expert last night, adding that it would have been easier if action had been taken 15 months ago.
It is part of a raft of advice being given to David Cameron by both military and foreign office mandarins as he prepares for next weeks full spectrum report of British options to rid the world of the evil death cult.

(101,321 posts)but a little less reliable on its fact-checking (for instance, it talks real rubbish about the weather and global warming, Princess Diana's death, or the chances of finding a little girl who was kidnapped and/or killed in Portugal 10 years ago). Politically, it supports the UK Independence Party, which is roughly the British equivalent of the Tea Party. It is strongly anti-immigrant, and anti-EU.
But at least there is a name attached to the '14 days' claim, this time, so I'd guess he really did say it: "Col Hamish de Bretton-Gordon".

(7,901 posts)Kurds will not fight in certain areas of Iraq and Syria where they know they will not be welcomed by the local civilians. They have said so previously. It is the sectarian nature of the territory that various groups may oppose either Assad or Daesh, or both, But have no sympathy for those of another sect who live nearby. Kurds, Shiite, Sunni, and others occupy the region which Daesh have taken control of. Just because they are all oppressed by Daesh does not make them brother warriors.
There is also a much more complex political game going on which simple military force will not conclude. The MIC has a huge financial stake in continuing the various regional wars. If it were possible to erase Daesh in a 2weeks of air-strikes, drone attacks and coordinated ground assault this would have already happened. This is not Libya and the forces behind Daesh do not appear to be so publicly accessible.
One side effect of the proposed assault would be the wholesale slaughter of virtually all the civilians within the Daesh controlled areas; either by direct effect of the attack or through the use of them as human shields by Daesh troops. I'm not as ready to condemn those people to annihilation as some appear to be.

(4,144 posts)we need to engage Daesh and use their own ideaology against them, no recruit will fight if he's not going to heaven to get what is promised to him. looks like freedom to me! http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/xzJyiwjxoHV8IDl_U_R3sw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3NfbGVnbztmaT1maWxsO2g9Mzc3O2lsPXBsYW5lO3B4b2ZmPTUwO3B5b2ZmPTA7cT03NTt3PTY3MA--/

(4,229 posts)It's one thing to "liberate" a town from an enemy, or to aid the resistance.
However if the majority of the areas that the terrorists are agree with them, then you can't really liberate them.
Too many Sunni muslims are OK with ISIS. They agree with their barbaric practices and think it's religiously cool to cleanse the population of heretics.
I just don't see how you defeat a force that has the support of the population, really even has support of significant numbers of Sunnis in the middle east.

This is a fictional character, first written about 140 years ago and the Brits are still in Afghanistan!!! Also, the British Military has never been able to defeat and get rid of the IRA. And this spring will be the 100 anniversary of the Dublin Uprising. So yeah, I'll take that bet but I want the over to be 14 days +.

(10,650 posts)Sure, they could end ISIS as a cohesive military force, but the remnants would fight on and it wouldn't end the terrorist attacks. A lot of civilians would die who otherwise wouldn't.

(3,426 posts)It doesn't add up Big Dog and I'll tell you how I know . Everybody knows donuts come in a box of a dozen ,that number is 12. When I place the order ,I always insist the free one comes in the package . That is called the bakers dozen and that brings the count to 13. Most people don't know that ! I don't think those generals are down with the numbers ,14 days doesn't figure out correctly.
Frankly I suspect a certain amount of obesity in their planning stages and I don't think they have 90 days to sort it all out.
I really don't think there is as much as a slim chance on that number.
Check out the full spectrum at your local donut shop and you just might see what I mean !
What I learned when I was U.S. attorney general state of New Jersey is, you really have to have those numbers down pat !
