Bernie Sanders Defends Democratic Socialism, Calling It Route to Economic Fairness

Source: NY Times

Senator Bernie Sanders offered a robust defense of democratic socialism on Thursday, defining his political philosophy in explicit terms and arguing that his views would bring economic fairness back to America.

Anticipated as a major speech in Mr. Sanders’s campaign for the Democratic nomination, the senator from Vermont described his views as being in the mainstream and rooted in the reforms introduced by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression.

“Democratic socialism means that we must create an economy that works for all, not just the very wealthy,” Mr. Sanders said at Georgetown University in Washington. “Democratic socialism means that we must reform a political system in America today which is not only grossly unfair but, in many respects, corrupt.”

While Mr. Sanders is popular with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, many voters have expressed concern that his views are too liberal to make him viable in a general election. Some Republican critics have labeled him a “socialist-communist,” a tag that could haunt him if he were to win the nomination.

The writer's bias is showing. Though maybe the next article will be about another candidate "defending" their politics. So, no bias at all. lol

Lies repeated are lies re-enforced even if portrayed as giving background. The writer should be condemned for this and fired. As far as another candidate defending her bias, not going to happen. New York times is only pretending to be progressive because it sells newspapers and Fox News has the crazies already.

And as we well know the polls didn't always predict who was going to win. They certainly underestimate the people who will turn out and vote either for the first time or who haven't vote for awhile. Of course those people would be Rush Limbaugh fans because why else would they vote for Sanders.

The campaign to elect Senator Sanders has always said we have to work together to effect change. And as big a deal as that is, and it is a big deal, it's part of an even bigger picture.

And part of that bigger picture is people not being bluffed by the propaganda put out by those on the right, and their hired guns, that's meant to scare people away from working, or even hoping, for a better system in our country.

I'm encouraged because I'm seeing receptive audiences listening to Senator Sanders lay out the main points of his campaign, and listen to the history of how we've made progress in the past.

I'm happy to see it made clear that so many people in this country are already there, and have been for quite a while as a matter of fact. It's all coming together now. The more that happens the harder it is to deny, and the more we'll hear "me too" from other politicians.

The demand for it is there, and the time for it is now. Variants will crop up, but I'll stick with the Senator Sanders (Spicy Bern) Original Flavor ™

I think that trademark is in the public domain now, so I'm OK when I use it. lol
