Ben Carson Compares Some Refugees To Rabid Dogs
Source: Huffington Post
Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Thursday used an extended metaphor about rabid dogs to discuss efforts to vet refugees fleeing the bloody civil war in Syria.
While speaking at a campaign event in Mobile, Alabama, Carson compared the need to screen refugees before they enter the U.S. with the steps a community would take to protect children from rabid dogs.
"If there is a rabid dog running around your neighborhood, you're probably not going to assume something good about that dog. And you're probably going to put your children out of the way," Carson said. "Doesn't mean that you hate all dogs, by any stretch of the imagination. But, you're putting your intellect into motion and you're thinking, how do I protect my children?"
"By the same token, we have to have in place screening mechanisms that allow us to determine who the mad dogs are, quite frankly," Carson continued. "Who are the people who want to come in here and hurt us and want to destroy us? Until we know how to do that, just like it would be foolish to put your child out into the neighborhood knowing that that was going on, it is foolish for us to accept people if we cannot have the appropriate type of screening."

Or maybe he would tell the dog, "I think you want to bite that guy over there."

(8,200 posts)In many communities through Western Europe their are ten of thousands of young men who are hopelessly unemployed and indeed discriminated against. They are a fervent ground which has been targeted by the ISIL for recruitment. It is estimated that as many as 20,000 have abandoned Europe and joined the cause to establish a Caliphate. They have a the promise of a cause, a future, a job and marriage. Many of these young people are filled with anger about the discrimination they believe they have suffered and are willing soldiers in this fanatical cause.
What would be the biggest blunder that the United states could make is to listen to the Republicans who are calling for an invasion of American troops. That is exactly what ISIL ardently wants to happen as it will be used as propaganda that they are in a religious struggle against the evil West that wants to destroy them because of their faith.

(6,148 posts)He compares TERRORISTS to Rabid Dogs, and compares refugees to dogs in general.
It's an analogy that people can understand, even though it's not nice to compare refugees to dogs.

(16,079 posts)Isn't that how they're being treated...the extra vetting that many here on DU seem to support is evidence of that!
The process in place is effective...granted it isn't 100%, but what process is?
The House just passed a bill that could be titled, Keep the Rabid Dogs from our Door, a bill that, once again has support from many DU members.
I have to wonder how many might deep down inside consider Donald Trump's latest:

He wants to do to Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews, even American Muslims!
