Georgetown University to Feel the Bern Today- Topic One? Socialism.

Source: WMAL/CNN

Washington- (CNN) Bernie Sanders has always had a take-me-or-leave-me approach to his status as a self-described democratic socialist. But he will head to Georgetown University Thursday to explain precisely what that label means and why his values fit squarely in the American political system.

The Democratic presidential candidate has long been the only member of Congress even remotely associated with the word "socialist". But Sanders' bet is that things have changed- and this label doesn't carry the baggage it once did.

Democratic activists in Iowa surveyed by CNN this fall in Iowa, at the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner, say they were quite fine with the term "socialism".

"Well I'm not afraid of that label at all. I think a lot of it actually defines who we are as Democrats", said Kristi Keast, a Hillary Clinton supporter.

See, that's how they have it both ways. They put the agenda in the headline, then Pontius Pilate by proving the article is accurate. Meanwhile, Joe and Jane Sixpack read only that Bernie is a Socialist. Cute, huh?

One of the more fact-free, knee-jerk, source-shaming posts I've read yet.

You know you've read something anyway, you google for a link, and you get in return linkless bs, but no refutation. Soooo tiresome, pointless and counter-productive to increasing anyone's knowledge. Regardless of where a statement appears, it's either true or false and this one is true. Deal with it or refute it.

He was connecting well with the audience, and his points were delivered in nice chunks that were easily absorbed, and which connected to those before and after them.

Someone wrote on youtube the Georgetown stream was overloaded. So I found the speech on youtube here:

where comment is still going on but sounds like it will end soon.
There were about 2,800 listening on this particular broadcast.

What can I say: to say it was a great speech is quite the understatement. You need to locate a link and watch the whole thing. I also read the comments being posted live as I watched the version on youtube, and I could not believe the volume of the positive activity.

Sanders did define his version of Democratic Socialist and he also addressed the current outburst of terrorism in France.

demonstrated he did not.

First, Mortgages have lower interest rates because they are secured loans. I don't see a lender being able to receive anyone's transcript or degree if they default on their student loan.

Second, NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not the North American Treaty Organization.

He really ought to know these things and I'm pretty sure Hillary will. He's not going to beat her with High School level mistakes.
