Donald Trump Says He's Open to Requiring American Muslims to Carry Special IDs
Source: Yahoo, via Mother Jones
"We're going to have to do things that we never did before," he said. "And some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule. And certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we're going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago."
What type of unthinkable things is Trumpwho has also floated the idea of shuttering certain mosquesproposing? He says he's potentially open to the creation of a database to track Muslim citizens, or requiring that Muslim-Americans carry a special form of identification noting their faith.

Mr. Trump was asked about the issue by an NBC News reporter and pressed on whether all Muslims in the country would be forced to register. They have to be, he said. They have to be.
When asked how a system of registering Muslims would be carried out whether, for instance, mosques would be where people could register Mr. Trump said: Different places. You sign up at different places. But its all about management. Our country has no management.
Asked later, as he signed autographs, how such a database would be different from Jews having to register in Nazi Germany, Mr. Trump repeatedly said, You tell me, until he stopped responding to the question.

I saw the clip of that last part on Rachel. Don looked at that reporter like he wanted to kill him. His 1st question was 'who are you with?'. Very intimidating.

(1,701 posts)For Trump even to suggest such a thing suggests that he has no knowledge of 20th century history. This man must not, must not, must not become president. He is a dangerous demagogue, and that is just the beginning of what is wrong with him. Dear God, how did we end up with such a bunch of Republican lunatics running for president. I remember when the Republican party consisted of small government fiscal conservatives who believed in individual freedom. Where have they all gone?

Many of their forefathers/mothers were banished from Europe because of religious prosecution, not because of them being violent, but because they believed a little differently. (39,215 posts)to someone who asks is idiotic. First it does not identify anyone without being asked for. Second this means that anyone with brown skin will be asked for that ID.
ID is what the Nazis were a doing with the different "enemies" of the party - like the pink star. Do we really want to go down this road?

I just see so many ways this can be used to punish rather than to identify people. Vetting should be done before anyone can be allowed in. There are many people who immigrated from the ME and have been here for many years - are they going to have to have IDs also?

(16,079 posts)Have you heard of any Republican speaking out against this? Neither has anyone else, because it's what all Republicans have wanted, but none of them had the courage to speak!
Now the man who is leading in the polls has voiced what the party has been after, and that includes the leadership in the Senate, House, at the state and local levels where Republicans have complete control...and the RNC is pretty quiet as well!!!
The German Jews believed that Hitler and his Nazis would fade away, and 6 million dead later, they realized how wrong they were!
Do we really want to make the same mistake, and believe that Republican voters, who are for the most part yellow cowards and racists, don't like, no love what Trump is calling for!
So, if the polls show Trump's numbers going up, will that be enough to show that Nazi ideology is alive and well in the USA? Or will you keep thinking that it's just a bunch of nutjobs?

Five year old Avram Rosenthal and two year old brother Emanuel of the Kovno ghetto in Lithuania are shown. Both boys were later deported to the death camp at Majdanek, where they were murdered. (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum)
Donald Trump stuck a toe across the Nazi line Thursday morning in the ongoing hysteria over Muslim immigrants.
The Republican presidential frontrunner refused to rule out requiring Muslims to carry special identification showing their faith which the Third Reich required Jews to do with a yellow badge that resembled the Star of David.
