Republican presidential candidates wasted no time after the terrorist attacks in Paris to put forth their ideas for fighting the Islamic State. Theyve proposed bombing oil fields in the Middle East (Donald J. Trump), allowing only Christian refugees into the United States (Senator Ted Cruz of Texas) and sending 10,000 American troops to Iraq and Syria (Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina).
The Democratic presidential candidates, meanwhile, have been less vocal in how they would respond to the attacks that shook the French capital last Friday.
On Thursday, however, Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver an in-depth speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York about her national security proposals and how she would combat the Islamic State,..............
In the second Democratic debate in Des Moines on Saturday, Mrs. Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Martin OMalley bowed their heads in a solemn moment of solidarity with the French and affirmed their commitment to joining a coalition to defeat the Islamic State. But the conversation quickly evolved into criticism of Mrs. Clintons 2002 vote as senator to authorize the Iraq War, and to her policies as secretary of state, including her push to oust Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in Libya. (Im not a big fan of regime change, Mr. Sanders said.)

The address will be the second time that Mrs. Clinton has delivered a wide-ranging foreign policy speech in a campaign heavily focused on economic issues. In September, she gave a substantial address about the Iran nuclear deal before a question-and-answer session at the Brookings Institution in Washington..................

Hillary Clinton is expected to outline her foreign policy vision Thursday morning in New York City, just one day shy of the week anniversary of the terror attacks that the Islamic State group has taken responsibility for. A Clinton aide said that she will hit on three objectives, which include defeating ISIS, disrupting growing terrorist networks and hardening defenses against external and homegrown threats, according to Politico.
Clintons speech, which can be watched live at 10:30 a.m. EST, will be a chance for her to either double down on the foreign policy espoused by President Barack Obama, who she served under as secretary of state, or to move in a different direction. She has aligned herself fairly closely with the president in the past but has also pushed for measures Obama has so far kept clear of, such as implementing a no-fly zone in Syria.
The day after the Friday Paris attacks, Democrats held a second presidential debate which was reorganized to focus on foreign policy first. Clinton,...........

(1,145 posts)in a nutshell will be:
"I will continue supporting the regime change efforts of ISIS in accordance with the foreign policy objectives of Israel, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Monarchies, and NATO countries. We will follow through on our neocon dream of dismantling society in Syria just as we've done in Libya and Iraq. Whatever Israel tells me to do, I am first and foremost going to make that happen."

(704 posts)Yes-- I'm a Bernie supporter and yes I'm voting for him. But if Bernie does not win I will certainly vote for Hillary in the general election. While she may not be as progressive as I like, I like her worlds above any maniac on the right who is running for President.
This was a smart, thoughtful, adult speech--unlike anything we've heard from the right.
The thought of any one of those morons on the right as Commander-in-Chief is just frightening.
