TransCanada withdraws application for Nebraska leg of Keystone pipeline, but will retain right-of-wa

LINCOLN — The company behind the Keystone XL pipeline withdrew its Nebraska application Wednesday but said it will retain $65 million in right-of-way easements for a future attempt to build the project.

TransCanada Corp. filed for dismissal of its application with the Nebraska Public Service Commission that sought approval for a roughly 275-mile section of the pipeline through the state. The announcement came a day before a PSC planning conference and 13 days after President Barack Obama denied an application to build Keystone XL across international borders.

The Calgary-based company reserves the right to reapply in Nebraska, spokesman Mark Cooper said.

"We’re very much committed to building Keystone XL, there’s no doubt about that," he added.

There's certainly at least one Democratic candidate who would do the same,
considering how much effort she's already put into the project.
