Independent autopsy: Hog-tying killed man in custody
Updated 5:43 pm, Wednesday, November 18, 2015

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — An attorney says an independent autopsy shows a Tennessee man died in Mississippi police custody because he was hog-tied for an extended period and not because he took LSD.

Tim Edwards, an attorney for Troy Goode's family, released the results during a press conference Wednesday in Memphis.

The state's autopsy has not been released. DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion told The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1Qv0lGO ) he didn't know when it would be finished, but that a wait time of 6-8 months wouldn't be unusual.

Edwards says Goode was left hog-tied and on his stomach for an extended period after his July 18 arrest in Southaven. He says the autopsy shows the position gave Goode trouble breathing, and when his heart couldn't compensate, it went into cardiac arrhythmia and killed him.

•Goode was also bitten by a police dog after opening door of a K-9 unit.
•Champion says autopsy indicated that death had nothing to do with police handling.

Hogtie
A calf hogtied while being branded on a ranch.

The hogtie is a method of tying the limbs together, rendering the subject immobile and helpless. Originally, it was applied to pigs (hence the name) and other young four-legged animals.[1]
Details

The hogtie when used on pigs and cattle has the limbs tied in front; it is not possible to tie them behind without harming the animal. When performed on a human, however, a hogtie is any position that results in the arms and legs being bound, both tied behind the person and then connecting the hands and feet.

Maybe FOX will report on stuff like this when its one of their kids that dies in custody. Hog-Tying is completely unnecessary.

And unfit for his office.

•Champion says autopsy indicated that death had nothing to do with police handling.

So how does he explain this?
He says the autopsy shows the position gave Goode trouble breathing, and when his heart couldn't compensate, it went into cardiac arrhythmia and killed him.

Oh, that's right, just ignore it. It's the copologist way.

The family has still never been given the cause of death or a death certificate so they are unable to receive their life insurance from this tragic wrongful death. It's also important to note that Goode was in police custody the entire time, they literally stood by his side and watched him die, excessive force, he was attacked by the K9, crushed in a pile of police officer, complained that he could not breath, informed the police he had asthma, his wife was told she would be arrested if she tried to go to the hospital, called to check on him and was told he was stable, and then later told he died.

There is something very rotten going on here, I hope the people of Mississippi send a strong signal that Hog Tying someone is not acceptable and for very good reason, the EMTs and the Police are both at fault in this young man's senseless death

Here are some of the key points from today’s media briefing:

July 18, 2015 would have been Goode's 150th Widespread Panic concert.
Attorneys say LSD taken before concert caused Goode to panic and fear confinement in a car.
Attorneys say Goode was not aggressive to police, but an officer ordered a dog to attack Goode and an officer shot him with a taser.
Goode was on his stomach in prone position when hogtied. That action restricted his ability to breathe, and Goode was asthmatic.
He was still prone and hogtied when put into EMS vehicle, which is a violation of MS EMS policies and procedures.
Attorneys say police stayed with Goode in ambulance, and the ambulance never turned on its lights.
Goode was not seen by Doctor for 20 minutes after arriving to hospital.
Attorneys say first time Goode was unshackled was after he coded at hospital. He was in the presence of police at time.
Independent autopsy results states that Goode cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia from being hogtied for over an hour.
Attorneys are calling the death of Troy Goode a case of excessive force. They told FOX13 this is because Goode was attacked by a dog, tased, hogtied and kept in the prone position until he coded at the hospital.
