The Latest: 21 homes damaged by Northern California tornado

Source: AP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The latest on the blast of winter-like weather moving across the western U.S. (all times local):

12:50 p.m.

A tornado that swept through a Northern California town damaged 21 homes — in the worst case shifting one on its foundation.

Sgt. Anthony Bejaran of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said Monday that nobody was hurt in Sunday afternoon's tornado. It traveled down a street in the community of Denair, near Modesto.

He says a large tree fell on a second home, destroying the roof; several cars were damaged, and sheds were carried from one yard into the next.

Around 3pm yesterday I went to the highest point around to see if any funnel clouds might appear. Every now and then one will actually touch down but they are never anything even close to what happens in the South and Midwest.

so look out, downstream!

Any storm that has enough punch to drown us is going to be a big weather maker as it mushes on east.
