Source: Bangor Daily News
AUGUSTA, Maine Gov. Paul LePage called President Barack Obamas goal of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year irresponsible after Fridays terrorist attacks in Paris.
But despite reports to the contrary, LePage has apparently stopped short of joining eight Republican governors in trying to stop new Syrian refugees from settling in their states, saying hell be discussing it with fellow members of the Republican Governors Association this week.
In his weekly radio address, text of which was released on Monday afternoon, LePage said there are gaping holes in our immigration policy and as a free state and country, we are always vulnerable to attack.
The safety of our citizens comes first, he said. We need responsible immigration policies to protect not only Americans, but all people.

(1,668 posts)These refugees are fleeing ISIS. Forcing these people to remain in Syria where they will be murdered and sold as chattel does not further America's interests.
