Union appeals to GE for payment of scheduled bonus

ErIE, Pa. -- GE Transportation's plan to cut 1,500 workers would save the company more than $100 million if the layoff is fully implemented.
The company, which expects to begin layoffs around Jan. 6, could save as much as an additional $3 million if all of those layoffs take place by Jan. 18.
That's a trigger date established by the four-year labor agreement signed this summer by General Electric and members of the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America.
Union members, who received a ratification bonus and cash payment in June, are due to receive another $2,000 each in January, but only if they are employed by the company on Jan. 18.

(14,574 posts)Instead of laying off all these workers by January 18, thus ripping them off of their bonuses, why not cut executive pay and bonuses, and change the corporate charter so that the interests of workers are held equal to the interests of shareholders???
Works for me!

(666 posts)Great idea, but my guess it won't happen just have to think back of who ran that company for many years and this bastard hated working people. The right wing in this once great country thinks this guy is the greatest thing since white bread and yes I refuse to say this bastards name.
