Obama To Sign Defense Bill With Guantanamo Restrictions

Source: Reuters

Tue Nov 10, 2015 4:03pm EST

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly passed a sweeping defense policy bill on Tuesday and the White House said President Barack Obama will sign it, despite provisions making it more difficult to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The Senate vote was 91-3 in favor of the measure, which authorizes $607 billion in defense spending and includes $5 billion in cuts excluded from an earlier version vetoed by Obama.

The president had objected to the previous bill both because of the Guantanamo language and because it eased military spending cuts without also loosening restrictions on domestic spending.

The defense bill, which was revised to reflect a two-year budget deal Obama signed into law last week that resolved the spending dispute, easily passed the House last week.

Such a pain.

The House passed the NDAA by 370-58. That margin, like the Senate vote, far exceeds the two-thirds majority to override a veto.

Congressional seats are of paramount importance. When it comes to the senate, now is the time to flip it and get a number of seats that can function as a majority.

The defense budget is the pork we don't have anymore.

The 2-year financing agreement passed in last weeks equalizes defense and domestic spending increases! This was the compromise!

This is quid pro quo pork - this for that!

Freakin' democracy!

My point is that anytime we see a bill passed with a veto proof majority, we need to remember what that may mean for a future president. If we want our president to have power we need to give him a congress that will back him up.

He may have left the White House but we still fight his wars and Halliburton still profits from murder in our name.

80 innocent people in a fucking hellhole for over 10 years and paid for with taxpayer money. And we can't find enough balls in Washington to make a pair, or a spine to attach them to.

Where is the outrage about pissing away taxpayer money to confine a bunch of innocent people? Fucking crickets.

A bunch of fucking cowards.
