Bond Set at $1 Million for Louisiana Marshals Charged With Killing 6-Year-Old Jeremy Mardis

Source: NBC News

The two marshals charged with fatally shooting a 6-year-old Louisiana boy and critically injuring his father will be held on $1 million bond each, a judge said Monday.

Derrick Stafford, 32, of Mansura, and Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, of Marksville, each face charges of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder in the shooting death of Jeremy Mardis, who was killed when marshals fired on the child's father's vehicle last Tuesday. Mardis' father, Chris Few, was critically injured.

Investigators have been analyzing evidence to determine what sparked the shooting, which Louisiana State Police said happened "at the conclusion of a pursuit." Mardis was struck by five bullets, according to the Avoyelles Parish coroner's office.

CBS News has learned that video from police officer's body camera appears to show Christopher Few with his hands in the air, before investigators say he was shot at 18 times by Deputy Ward Marshals Norris Greenhouse Jr., and Derrick Stafford.

The head of Louisiana State Police Mike Edmonson said at this point they do not know why the two marshals wanted to pursue Few in the first place.

"We don't know that yet," Edmonson said. "We're gonna find out."

When a black kid gets shot there are no arrests, gofundme accounts are created and Fox News brings on individuals to defend the officers. But when a white kid gets shot just the opposite takes place. I'm glad they arrested these guys but this country is glaringly racist to the extreme.

white kid, AA cops.

I guess this is the little sacrifice made by the authoritarians to make everything all right?

If the boy was sitting on that cushion at the time (no way to know without seeing the video) he would be clearly visible from the back of the truck.

sure he didn't know what to do ... and that he was afraid of a confrontation with a certain one of those policemen.

That picture of the little boy just kills me.

Glad the cops were arrested in this case

but what about the cop that 12 year old Tamir Rice ?
What about the cops that killed Ayiana Jones?

there is double standard when it comes to black children in this country and it keeps proving why black people do no trust police nor will ever.

a million times. But I am not surprised. This has ALWAYS been the case. Sorry and sad this innocent got murdered yet a 12 year old playing with a toy gun in a park in cleveland, Tamir Rice, is murdered/executed in 2/10s of a second after the arrival of two racist animals who are walking free and clear today. The person who called in this reports is just as much an animal as these two cops.

I have heard that there was no warrant, so now people want to know why these two marshal's were pursuing in the first place and then I just saw this story

http://www.katc.com/story/30481389/fews-fiancee-claims-one-of-the-marksville-officers-went-to-her-house-sent-her-messages?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_KATC-TV_3:_Acadiana_s_Newschannel

The fiancée of the man shot by Marksville officers last week says one of the officers had been messaging her on Facebook and had come to her home, The Advocate reports.

Megan Dixon, Chris Few's fiancée, told The Advocate that Norris Greenhouse, Jr., one of two officers arrested in the shooting of Few and the shooting death of his 6-year-old son Jeremy Mardis, had been messaging her on Facebook.

There are also reports that at the end of the pursuit, the body camera shows that Few had his hands up before the 18 shots were fired by the marshal's, it beginning to look like this was some kind of personal attack
