WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. regulators rejected an effort on Friday to force Google, Facebook and other popular web sites to honor "Do Not Track" requests from users, in a setback for digital privacy advocates.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) dismissed a petition that would have required Internet giants to let consumers opt out of having their online activity tracked.
The decision secured a win for Silicon Valley businesses that rely on monetizing reams of personal data.
The FCC said it has been unequivocal in declaring that it has no intent to regulate edge providers, or companies that provide content and services over the Internet.

I don't even blame DU or Skinner for that: The entire internet tracks. I'm not even sure you can build a functional website that does all the stuff DU does without something tracking us somewhere.

But i don't think it is right that we are essentially followed wherever we go on the internet. That's sick.
We would object if a would-be lover or a police officer or even a good friend followed us around on our errands and activities all day and all night.
Essentially in this day when we do so much on the computer (or at least most people do), that is what is happening. Big brother just sits outside our house on a telephone pole, in a piece of cable, and follows us around all day and night.
We are allowing ourselves to be stalked for as much time of the day as we are on the internet.
I once knew a woman who compulsively stalked someone. She could not help herself. Even a psychologist could not help her. The man was no danger to her. He was not interested in her. But she could not resist stalking him.
Is that our government? A compulsive stalker?
Is that our internet world? Compulsive stalking?
