Montana is 30th state to accept ObamaCare Medicaid expansion

Source: The Hill

Montana officially became the 30th state to expand Medicaid under ObamaCare on Monday when the Obama administration approved its expansion plan.

In April, Montana’s Republican legislature approved Medicaid expansion, but like other Republican-controlled states, it made some changes to put a conservative twist on the program.

The Obama administration needed to approve those changes, which include making beneficiaries pay premiums up to 2 percent of their income, and on Monday it signed off.

“This agreement will bring much needed access to healthcare coverage to more than 70,000 low-income Montanans,” Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said in a statement.

ObamaCare’s expansion of Medicaid increases eligibility up to 138 percent of the poverty line, about $33,000 for a family of four.

I have a friend who lives in Tennessee and does not have insurance and can't afford insurance. I sure wish they would get on board. I guess we all know WWJD according to all the Republicans in control of so many state legislatures and governorships.

Unless it's NC. We always wait until everyone else has already done it.

The governor, Bredesen (R) said he was open to it, but the legislature also (R) put the kibosh on it, and Bredesen didn't put up much of a fight.

Lived in TN during his time as Governor. He was steeped in healthcare knowledge and experience. Tried incredibly hard to deliver health services to underserved communities, while managing the funds available. Worked across the aisle as best he could, given the political make-up of the state. Good guy, smart, compassionate - please don't blame total collapse of sanity in TN now on Bredesen. Peace, Hannah

Haslam was nominally for Medicaid expansion, but the legislature KO'd it, and Haslam didn't fight for it.
