Calgary, Alberta-based TransCanada Corp. sent a letter to the State Department, which reviews cross-border pipelines, to suspend its application while the company goes through a state review process in Nebraska it had previously resisted. The move comes in the face of an expected rejection by the Obama administration and low oil prices that are sapping business interests in Canada’s oil reserves.

Appears rejection by the Obama Administration is the main reason. But hidden in their reason is the low price of oil.

I had a feeling in my bones that Obama was just going to let it be studied to death, rather than actually let it pass.

rejected it. What I don't understand is how infrequently the dems, including Clinton, didn't bring up the many technical problems such as this one. They were/are content to let it be just a battle between 'environmentalists' and 'pro-growth all-of-the-above' republicans. There were many good reasons to continue to study the application and to ultimately deny it but as usual, dems let the debate get boiled down to someth black and white simplification.

Having whined about that....yea for the suspension!
