Donations to Scott Walker Flagged as Credit Card Fraud
Source: The Atlantic Wire
When MaryAnn Nellis tried to pay for groceries on April 14, her credit card was declined. Later, she said, she found out why: Her credit card company, Capital One, had flagged an earlier purchase as potentially fraudulent. The problem? A $5 donation to Friends of Scott Walker, the Wisconsin governor's campaign committee, Nellis said.
Nellis told a Capital One representative she had not made the donation to Walker, who is fighting an effort to recall him as governor in a closely watched, expensive election set for June 5.
"Over my dead body," said Nellis, a potter and retired teacher in upstate New York who describes herself as "adamantly angry and upset" at Republicans such as Walker. Nellis disputed the charge and she was issued a new card.
Though the amount of money was small, ProPublica decided Nellis' complaint was worth following up. There have been other reports recently about insecure campaign-donation websites and the potential for fraud. Earlier this month, The Washington Times reported that Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting Republican Mitt Romney, was using a collection system that made online donors' credit card information accessible to even amateur snoopers.

(81,414 posts)To call it "the democrat side" is to evoke the meme the other side uses to demean and diminish ours. As in - THEY will determine what our name is and not us. And THEY will use a faux version of our name to cheapen it, and us.
Our party name is the Democratic Party. NOT the "Democrat Party," and it's not the "Democrat Senate" or the "Democrat colleagues" or the "Democrat proposal" or anything of the kind.
Yes I'm making an issue about this. I know it's nitpicking and I don't mean to single you out. But this simply has to stop. It's just more ways to demean and diminish us and muddy up our name and our very identity by screwing with our name. It's a power play. And it MUST be resisted in all ways possible. EVERY time it happens, it should be stopped, questioned, and the bad behavior thoroughly checked.
I'd love to see Chris Matthews and Rachel and Lawrence and Ed take to task ANYONE guesting on their show who uses that terminology. And every time it's NOT questioned, every time it's allowed to sort of slip in there, it helps solidify that wrong and misnamed imagery. It's VERY subtle. It's VERY dog-whistle-y. It's VERY under-the-radar. And these people are very well trained and quite adept at it.
And most of the folks on our side are brain-dead about it.

(11,364 posts)It worked with "Obamacare". I call it that all the time now, as do other liberals, including many of those on the television machine.
In both cases, the terms used are arbitrary anyway, since the meaning is obvious either way. If we start using their term, they will stop, or if they don't we won't care any more. We've seen the pattern before.

(81,414 posts)I think it's a mistake EVER to go along with what they're doing because it will supposedly blunt the effect. I'm not sure it does. And I don't EVER use "Obamacare." Unless I adjust it to "Obama Cares."
There's no way in HELL that I personally will EVER use one of their names for us as OUR name for us. However, I will call them republi-CONS as long as I want to - because I believe in the whole taste-of-their-own-medicine, see-how-they-like-it response. Bully the bullies back. And because all they offer is a CON JOB.
Labels count. It's stupid. But they do.

(1,628 posts)I know times are tough, but Capital One is scrapping the bottom. The interest rate is probably 23% and I bet they have something like a $49 initial fee. People shouldn't do it.
Someone should go to jail.

DFW
(54,426 posts)They cheat because they KNOW that without crooked methods--dirty money, theft,
ballot fraud, disenfranchisement of Democratic voters, etc. etc. etc.--they lose VERY
badly, and the country just might become that better place that a control freak fears
with every fiber of his being.

I have tried my best to "get to know" what all this is about - and he doesn't come around as a nice guy to be honest.. In fact he comes around as a rather unpleasant evil bastard, who is willing to walk over the sick, the ill, the infirm, people who need assistance to live to be honest...
And I do hope, that he is recalled - and a more sensible person put into office - who might even turn things around for people who need help... Most people IS able to work themselves, if they just is able to get things back on track.. Some may need help for mental needs for the rest of their life too... But for some, people who is sick, are just not humans anymore....

(1,068 posts)Again...the republican Party is NOT a political party as much as it is a criminal organization. The very tenets bespeak of crimes against humanity in the semblance of taking from the poor and giving to the rich, as well as policies that destroy the planet. Of COURSE the rethugs use tactics like this all the time.
I have said over and over and over again that we need to look at legal mechanizations to ban the GOP. It is DOABLE, folks, and we need to get it done PRONTO. Had this been done in Obama's first year in office, we wouldn't be going through these shenanigans now.
