About a dozen people protested outside the Omaha headquarters of online stock broker TD Ameritrade because of a national controversy involving retired company founder Joe Ricketts.
Ricketts came under fire after The New York Times reported his involvement in considering a proposed ad campaign that would have attacked President Barack Obama by highlighting the presidents former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Ricketts has since rejected the plan. But the protesters, organized by the national liberal group Americans United for Change, said the company should call for Ricketts to refrain from attacking Obama.

(82,849 posts)But I say, "Fuck that." Remember Move On? They sponsored a little "write your own political ad" contest in 2004. Out of a shitload of entries from all over the country, I think there were two that were deemed objectionable, one because it made a pretty fair comparison between the Bush administration and some of the policies of Germany between 1933 and 1945. Oh, the horror! Beltway insiders and popular media chuckleheads alike rolled out their cushiest fainting couches in a mass case of the vapors.
Even though these were independent entries in a contest and Move On took them off their site almost immediately, the consensus was clear: Move On Had to be Punished! And so it was.
Well here, Ricketts had his little smear campaign all bought and paid for, just waiting for its launch. It was only when word leaked out prematurely that Ricketts had to backtrack and deny any knowledge or responsibility for what his money was doing.
Restraint? Fuck that.
