Actress Maureen O'Hara Dies at 95

Irish-American actress Maureen O'Hara has died. She was 95.

The Parent Trap star's family confirmed to The Irish Times that she passed away from natural causes in her sleep on Saturday.

The FitzSimons family (O'Hara was born Maureen FitzSimons) issued a statement, saying, "Maureen was our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family as they celebrated her life listening to music from her favorite movie, The Quiet Man."

Per the Irish Times, the family praised O'Hara, who received an honorary Academy Award in 2014, for having brought "unyielding strength and sudden sensitivity to every role she played."

Family confirms ‘Quiet Man’ star passed away peacefully today in her sleep

The actor Maureen O’Hara, famed for her flaming red hair and her role in The Quiet Man, has died aged 95.

Her family confirmed in a statement that she passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Boise, Idaho on Saturday morning surrounded by family.

Born in Ranelagh, Dublin in 1920, O’Hara was the eldest of six children in the Fitzsimons family. The Abbey Theatre-trained actor became a naturalised US citizen in 1946 and held dual Irish-US citizenship.

We have a whole list. Our holidays wouldn't be the same without the original with O'Hara in it. We keep a list and check them off...
