Wisconsin Governor Walker signs bill restricting secret investigations

Source: Reuters

Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker on Friday signed a bill into law that prohibits prosecutors from using the state's secret investigation law to probe political crimes - a measure used to convict four of his aides and investigate his campaign.

In Wisconsin, prosecutors can use a so called "John Doe" proceeding law to call witnesses, request search warrants and offer immunity without probable cause that a crime has been committed.

Under the legislation Walker signed, prosecutors can no longer use the law to investigate cases of bribery or political misconduct. Instead, the law is limited to the investigation of certain crimes, such as ones involving violent felonies.

"We may never know if there are political crooks popping champagne corks today knowing that their crimes will now be very difficult to investigate and even harder to prosecute," said Democrat Rep. Peter Barca in a statement.

"I saved a thousand slaves. I could have saved twice that many if only they knew they were slaves."

The people today see that they aren't themselves in chains, and so think they are free.

But you don't need chains when you control their minds.

It's mostly due to Walker's cronies the corrupt Koch brothers and their money that he was voted in 3 times.

Now Walker has appointed yet another of his cronies into the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The only big fail Wisconsin's GOP had was the attempt to make our government records secret.
They tried to sneak that one in the budget, but they ended up getting a lot of guff for that, even from fellow republicans.

Just as they wanted and end to collective bargaining for state employees, just as they want poor people and women put in their place. I'm just across the lake in Michigan - same thing here!

Loyalty to a party.

Belief in what the ads tell them.

Simple rank stupidity.

Based on the uncovered corruption so far, how do we know that he really even won?
After the 2000 presidential election, I'll never trust the results again when it's someone who is clearly unprepared for the job.
Look at Kansas and the investigation into voting machines in Sedgwick County--led by a university statistician.

There were too many irregularities in that recall election. There was a great deal of discussion about it here.

I have family in Wisconsin who swear it was stolen. One of them was an election judge for forty-nine years, and she is convinced of it.

Instead of taking a good hard look at the police and creating policies that strongly diacourage the kind of behaivior that is so ofyen caught on video these days, their solution is to just make it illegal to catch it on video...

So freaking glad he's out of the race for president. I do feel sorry for the state of WI, don't believe they ever elected him, they just have a really bad clerk who manages to mfg. R votes out of thin air and voila Walker wins again. Bet she trashes lots of Dem votes along the way as well, it sure looks like that from the weird demos.
