U.S. lawsuits build against Monsanto over alleged Roundup cancer link

Source: Yahoo! News / Reuters

(Reuters) - Personal injury law firms around the United States are lining up plaintiffs for what they say could be "mass tort" actions against agrichemical giant Monsanto Co that claim the company's Roundup herbicide has caused cancer in farm workers and others exposed to the chemical.

The latest lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Delaware Superior Court by three law firms representing three plaintiffs.

The lawsuit is similar to others filed last month in New York and California accusing Monsanto of long knowing that the main ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, was hazardous to human health. Monsanto "led a prolonged campaign of misinformation to convince government agencies, farmers and the general population that Roundup was safe," the lawsuit states.

The litigation follows the World Health Organization's declaration in March that there was sufficient evidence to classify glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans."

in Rural Communities. Cancer Cluster's. Just a hidden epidemic that Monsanto and Bayer are doing their best to hide. This past several months we noticed a subtle advertising of the corporate spin of their GMO Seeds. Sponsors and Co-sponsers of Community Events. Call it what it is,a bribe, and fake threats to anyone who might oppose or expose the looming dangers. Well,we can always move this seed plant.

but when it comes to Monsanto, there seems to be no limit to their callous disregard for life.

And it drives me nuts that their paid trolls jump on every GMO or Monsanto thread mocking very real concerns. What a rotten way to make a living.

but this is much worse. People consciously inhaled tobacco smoke, but many people have no idea they are being exposed to these hazardous chemicals.

You clearly are well informed on the subject. I really appreciate your perspective.

I'm disgusted by how often I said this while using the shit professionally.

I still use it today, but I'm much more careful about it. I use as little as possible and I "gear up" when I use it.

Edit to add:

Monsanto invented Glyphosate widely known as Roundup.

EVERY chemical company that makes herbicides now make Glyphosate. It is an off patent product so every company now has a generic of the same chemical.

Responsibility now falls on ALL of those companies now, not just Monsanto imo.

I know it's not exactly the most popular topic here, but there actually ARE frivilous lawsuits, that pop up.

Like the one Bush's legal flacks filed against Gore in Florida.

And since all the established science says this "ROUNDUP IZ PERZOIN!" hysterics are wrong, this does look like a frivilous lawsuit.

Guy gets leukemia and sues Monsanto? Exactly what types of cancer is glyphosate linked to? As a glyphosate user I would like more information. And, by the way, it's a lot cheaper to get an off-brand glyphosate product than Monsanto's RoundUp. It's going to be hard to prove Monsanto alone is responsible even if a direct link to particular cancers is found. I'm not an apologist for Monsanto or glyphosate. I just don't think we have enough information yet.

for the weeds and salt on the ones that grew up in the cracks in the concrete. I still use some cleaners, but I'm simplifying a lot of it. Actually basic products like vinegar, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, etc., often do a better job than the chemical laden products and they don't make me wheeze.

I've had to deal with roaches and ants, and I learned (from an exterminator actually) that boric acid is highly effective and harmless to people and pets. Those sprays are pretty bad and only work for a the short term.

The friend with roaches has been using that spray for years. The bugs are taking over. It's pretty bad.

They have gotten into all the electrical appliances. Her stuff just stops on a regular basis. She can't have repair people in because they just go crazy.

Did you know that roaches all have different personalities? Someone actually studied that. They are really amazing if you can get passed the fact they are roaches.

Now I'm really picturing them laughing at her. That sounds like a real nightmare though. Years ago I lived in Mississippi for a year and the roaches were horrible. We didn't have a lot of problems with them, but people who lived there all their lives were rather used to them and as a result didn't put a lot of effort into getting rid of them. I've been in houses that were totally infested, much like your friend's and it makes my skin crawl just thinking of it.
