SPRINGFIELD ‒ U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., threw his support behind Hillary Clinton's 2016 White House bid Wednesday, saying the former secretary of state understands real issues facing the nation and has offered solutions to address them.
Calling Clinton a "trailblazer," Markey praised the Democratic presidential hopeful for fighting for American families, adding that he looks forward to "fighting alongside her for a fairer, healthier, more prosperous future for America."
"Hillary has spent her career fighting for American families and working to ensure they can achieve their American Dream," he said in a statement. "She understands the challenges facing our nation college affordability, income inequality, access to affordable health care and has real plans for how to address them."
Markey further praised Clinton for releasing a strategy to address prescription drug and heroin abuse. He added that, in his opinion, "there is no one better to lead the effort to combat climate change" than the former first lady.
