US anti-abortion campaigner Troy Newman barred from entering Australia

Source: The Age (Australia)

A prominent US anti-abortion campaigner who wants doctors that perform the procedures to be executed has been denied a visa to Australia, where he was to conduct a speaking tour.

Troy Newman responded to the decision on Facebook, saying his visa was revoked mid-flight and he was "pulled off a plane in Denver and told I could not travel to Los Angeles" and then on to Melbourne, where he was due to speak on Friday night.

Labor MP Terri Butler welcomed the decision, saying it "sends a strong message to those who would seek to cause discord in the community, and disrupt the ability of women to access lawful reproductive medicine".

"There is no place for this kind of hate speech in Australia – and I'm pleased the government has listened to our concerns," she said.

Heh. Of course, Mr. Newman is whining and presumably, the US RWNJ's will be soon demanding a boycott of Foster's Lager and Qantas.

Are you advocating restricting the freedom of speech? The First Amendment gives the right to free speech to everyone, not just people with whom you agree.

to travel from Denver to LA, if he wants to. It's presumably his money. The retraction of his visa shouldn't affect his travel outside of Australia.

But I'm glad he's not going to Oz. We most certainly don't need his "message".

And Foster's Lager: the beer many non-Australians assume we drink...except we don't.
