Kentucky clerk in gay marriage dispute switches to Republican Party

WASHINGTON | By Emily Stephenson

A county clerk in Kentucky who was briefly jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples said on Friday that she and her family have switched to the Republican Party because the Democrats no longer represented them.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, 50, who has said her beliefs as an Apostolic Christian prevent her from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, said they had changed parties last week. She was a long-time Democrat in eastern Kentucky.

"My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic Party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?" she told Reuters in an interview at a hotel in Washington, where she has traveled to be feted at a Family Research Council event later on Friday.
....

She called "absurd" the idea she should quit as clerk due to her religious beliefs, and said she was following state law that has not changed since the Supreme Court ruling. She added those who called her homophobic didn't know her.

This is hardly an earth-shattering development, but it wouldn't be right for her not to be in the news for one day.

Hat tip, Joe.My.God: Kim Davis Is Now A Republican

I expect a complete change in ... well, nothing at all.

The Liberty Counsel got in touch with her soon after anticipating the no-brainer SCOTUS ruling. They knew they could use her for publicity and bilk her supporters once this became a national embarrassment ...er....story.

The best commentary on Kim Davis remains the Sit Next to Kim Davis Twitter feed.

Irony and satire remains a lost art, until it isn't. The GOP has irony deficiency disorder. Too bad on them. But, regretfully, a vast portion of the electorate suffers from a similar malady.

We have a whole lot of work to do.

It's hard to reason that she would NOT run for state office. After all, she got the position she's in now by election and she's taking in $80,000 a year, which is great pay anywhere, but especially so in Kentucky. She's achieved lots of fame and attention--even got to raise her hands before an adoring crowd to the strains of "Eye of the Tiger." She's been making frequent TV appearances and been hobnobbing with U.S. senators and congressmen.

From her perspective, taking elective office as a county clerk has caused God to just shower her with blessings. Is it not obvious God wants her to pursue this political path further?

Let us all now speak in tongues to celebrate Kim and the glory of her Apostolic righteousness: "Hee-buh-baba... wah-kuh-shee-huh... shee-muh-baba-matta... dunkin'-donuts-coffee-coolatta!"

P.S.: If anyone thinks I'm being too hard on the ridiculous practice of speaking in tongues, I encourage you to watch the video below.

bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

If anything, the Democratic Party has inched rightward over the last couple of decades (although Bernie would swing us well back to where we should be!)

She, herself, changed something since she "found Jesus" only 4 short years ago.

Could it be her projecting? Ayup...just what a Republican would do!

"She called "absurd" the idea she should quit as clerk due to her religious beliefs, and said she was following state law that has not changed since the Supreme Court ruling." It would appear that the cross on the Stars and Bars may be the Cross of her religion.
