Trump to CNN: 'I love the Muslims'
Source: CNN
Urbandale, Iowa (CNN)Donald Trump on Saturday responded to a question from CNN about whether Muslims pose a danger to the country, saying: "I love the Muslims. I think they're great people."
The Republican presidential front-runner made the comment after addressing high school students here at their homecoming Saturday night.
During a question-and-answer session with students, Trump was unable to avoid being asked about the latest political controversy dogging his campaign: his decision not to correct a supporter this week who called President Barack Obama a Muslim.

(6,133 posts)We have seen this before. Remember that evangelicals thought that the Mormon religion was a cult, yet they got behind Romney in 2012. They are all about hating liberals and gay people. They like black people like Justice Thomas and those on Fox who back them up, so in that way they back black people.
So Trump who may have been the opposite of their values in the past, only needs to insult those who they hate now. Hatred is a great motivator.

(26,060 posts)At the stupidity of anyone who buys that Trump is a religious conservative. Only a complete imbecile could believe that which explains the freeper support. He knew how easy it would be to fool them and he was right. They're humping a adulterous thrice married mob connected casino owner and think they have a moral high ground. It's delicious.

(405 posts)I read it, but I don't see what it has to do with his giving the "same answer" every time.
I mean, he's not like Jimmy McMillan, former candidate for NYC mayor, who answered every question on any subject by eventually saying, "The rent is too damn high."

If you don't know what's wrong with anything Trump supporters have said, just change the word Muslim to Jew, and remember what happened in 1930's-40's Germany. They never campaigned on killing anyone. They just wanted to define who is a German and keep the foreigners out.

(10,857 posts)When one is a a disgusting bigot, referring to groups of people as "the" anything usually means the speaker is trying to identify them as a social out-group, a part of the population that a guy like The Don is not a part of and thinks it's okay to hate.
Furthermore, he knows that a large subset of his audience will automatically understand that and agree with it.

Says it captures silver spoon's appeal to those seeking to recreate themselves
The campaign of Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump announced Monday that its adopting keep hope alive as its new mantra.
The catchphrase previously served as the slogan for one-time Democratic presidential hopeful Jesse Jackson, who also unsuccessfully pursued the nations highest office in 1984 and 1988. It will complement the Trump teams existing Make America Great Again catchphrase, rather than replace it, according to campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.
We feel like the new saying connects with our core supporters, said Lewandowski, who was tagged as Trumps top political advisor after the departure of Roger Stone - the Reality TV personalitys longtime friend and advisor.
Our polls indicate we do very well with Americans who think the truth is whatever they can convince others to believe, Lewandowski said. This new slogan speaks to their universal desire for a mulligan. Regardless of whether youre a corporate life form embracing a new business name to escape the past like say Comcast and Xfinity or an individual who has made some mistakes like Ron Artest."
Artest, a former basketball star, adopted the name Metta World Peace after his role in a 2004 brawl between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons and their fans.
