Prospect of shutdown grows

Source: The Hill

The prospect of a second government shutdown in two years is growing as House conservatives pledge to oppose any funding measure that includes money for Planned Parenthood.

GOP leaders face a familiar problem.

A measure that blocks funding for Planned Parenthood would almost certainly lack the votes to pass the Senate, and would be vetoed by President Obama.

But Republicans in the House don't have enough GOP votes to approve a funding measure that continues funding for Planned Parenthood, and don't want to negotiate with Democrats.

I have cut off funding to candidates who supported defunding PP in the past; the same will apply this year.

that will wash them out of government for a decade, or more if we get good Democrats (not those Blue DOGS) to take their places.

The People have had enough, and they aren't shy about saying so. With Bernie as the guiding light, we might just turn this place around!

Sat Sep 12, 2015, 06:10 PM
Sep 2015

when more of the electorate wake up and actually vote. That is why Turtle and Cheeto keep trying to downplay the thing. It may work for them before "off year" elections when their loons tend to vote and much of the rest of the electorate snoozes, but for Presidential elections (with the billions that will be spent), there's an entirely different dynamic going on.

As a case in point, when Gingrich did his shutdown strut in 1995 (which was the last time the government was shut down until the 2013 closure), he did it the winter before the 1996 Presidential election. And the rest is history as the result was that Clinton became the first Democrat since Roosevelt to serve more than one (elected) term.

When they did the shut down in 2013, there were many in the media doing the comparisons of consequences based on that previous shutdown, but without pointing out the differences between off year versus Presidential year election cycles and the voting percentages.

but the Democratic Party ran away from ACORN as fast as they could.
I have never seen a Democratic Administration abandon an organization like ACORN as fast as they did,
because a threat from a twerp like Brietbart.

Our Party Leadership dropped ACORN and ran like a scared rabbit leaving a trail of yellow urine in their wake.

I don't trust our Leadership to take a real STAND for Planned Parenthood.
Our Leadership hasn't really fought for ANYTHING except the TPP and a WAR with Syria.

The only people promoting the idea that the 2016 presidential race is competitive are those whose livelihood relies on it being perceived as so (i.e., media that relies on people tuning in and hearing/seeing/reading the ads they sell, media that relies on campaigns buying ad time.)

Even senate races and other statewide races can't fly with this nonsense. They can't get by anymore merely by being "against that black guy in the white house."

depends upon how well PP defends itself and the services it provides

It really is being tarred and feathered, particularly in churches I would imagine

Yet young and old and poor depend on its services

The GOP alternative to PP is what exactly? The same as the alternative
to Obamacare?

Someone needs to remind the public what PP does for them

I doubt Obama will be in that debate unless or until he vetoes
a denuded budget

The last one was a bloody waste of time and energy AND a waste of federal tax dollars. (It costs money to draw up contingency plans, and time to implement them.
Not to mention chaotic.

If they go through with this, the Dem Party should target not only those who voted to block funding for Planned Parenthood, but also any Republican (presumably, all of them) who worked to bring us to another shutdown.

How these people can portray themselves as "patriots", and how any voters can think of these bigoted, small-minded obstructionists as "patriots" is beyond my understanding.

I also will and have not given any money to anyone that votes for this cr*************p .
Social Security checks will stop and other programs------------------while these right wing twits and they are right wing twits keep getting a pay check.
And every democratic Senator and Congressional Democrat person should forgo there paycheck or money and donate to Planned Parenthood-----------is there a petition that can be started?

I also think ALL 45 democratic senators should first and foremost filibuster any resolution.

Then in the house, not one and I mean not one democrat should get up and speak, they should ALL walk out, every last one of them--------------------------

Same with military spending. It will be another "essential services" vs. "nonessential services" divide. They know the drill- don't do anything that might piss off the old fox-viewing geezers that make up their base.

And I would not be surprised to see more stunts like the "vets going to see memorials and getting turned away" crap that happened last time.

I'm a fed employee and one of my studies has been completely shut down due to lack of funding which means I don't work it, I don't get paid.

The LAST shut-down was for 3 weeks, no paycheck. They announced that we would be getting back pay for the time we were off. I got a check for $12.00.

And they're threatening to shut down again? We're one of those families that are BARELY keeping our head above water. Missing even one paycheck is going to be financially devastating.

Sleeping. It was great while it lasted.
