Colorado man faces felony charges for shooting black bear cubs

2015-09-02 11:30

Denver - A Colorado man may face criminal charges after shooting two black bear cubs in the foothills west of Denver, killing one of them and forcing wildlife officials to euthanise the other, authorities said on Tuesday.

The incident began early on Tuesday in the town of Evergreen when a homeowner was awakened by a mother bear and her two cubs rummaging through garbage, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The man, who was not identified by authorities, initially fired two rubber buckshot rounds from a shotgun, but when his dog ran outside, he shot at the bears with live ammunition.

"He said he was concerned about his dog's safety and he fired a third round, which was a live round," the sheriff's office statement said.

What did the man do? Let the dog out to harass the bears.? Why didn't he just leave the bears alone.?..they'd be gone in 4-5 minutes and going somewhere else.

and this person is a idiot.
I can just see it now---------door flies open while billy the bear hunter tries to scare the bears from eating his garbage that in all probably was not secured properly, and the door flies open and dog runs out causing the mother bear to go into a fit----------------how stupid is that, and then to top it off he has a gun, shooting like its some old time movie just blasting away causing more confusion-----with a gun.
Not keeping the door close and not calling game and fish------------nope-------just come out blasting---rubber pellets, live pellets just come out blasting

Did he try "some" common sense

I was walking my dog and a bear crossed my path and this new family ran outside and asked me why our private community allows this. I asked them what are you talking about, the Bears? They said yes and they also said the deer were a problem and were eating there plants. I was at a loss for words, so I just blurted out, you see those tags on the Bears ears, they stop at our office and ask for one and if they have met a suitable mate they get a tag on each ear. They looked at me with Scott Walker eyes while I walked away smirking!

unless you have bear proof containers. Never. This man is an idiot, and should not be allowed to own anything more deadly than a spoon.

Though he did call animal control, he just kept his family and dog inside, and they eventually went away.
