Rand Paul: #BlackLivesMatter should change their name to All Lives Matter or Innocent Lives Matter
Sen Rand Paul (R-KY) criticized the Black Lives Matter movement on Wednesday, accusing it of bullying people.
I think they should change their name maybe, if they were All Lives Matter or Innocent Lives Matter,' Paul told Fox News host Sean Hannity. I am about justice, and frankly I think a lot of poor people in our country, and many African-Americans, are trapped in this war on drugs and I want to change it. But commandeering the microphone and bullying people and pushing people out of the way I think really isnt a way to get their message across.
The protest at Netroots touched off a series of appearances by activists connected to the movement at events featuring OMalley and fellow Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, as well as GOP candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Protesters also met with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after reportedly being blocked from attending one of her events.
Both Paul and Hannity also talked up the Tea Party senators outreach efforts to black communities. Ive appeared with many members of the Congressional Black Caucus to talk about criminal justice, the senator said. Ive been to Howard University, Ive discussed it in Chicago and other cities, and so Im more than willing to discuss it. But having people take the microphone they need to go somewhere else and they need to rent their own microphone.

(53,778 posts)Him pontificating on BLM is just a way to try to inject some life and attention to his stalled campaign.
It won't work. He's toast sooner than his father ever was.

(182,811 posts)Wonder if Jack Hunter was mentioned. Hunter was Paul media director and co-wrote Paul's 2011 book. Hunter also was once the Chairman of the neo-Confederate League of the South. He has other direct ties to the white supremacist movement. He resigned a year or so ago from Payl's staff.

that's the issue, and should not be clouded by other issues
blacklivesmatter does not imply others don't.

(273 posts)Until Rand Paul and some of the other privileged white guys actually turn black, and can therefore experience the reality of what many of our brothers and sisters of color are experiencing, they ought to just shut the fuck up and stop pontificating!
