EU criticized for silence on human rights in Colombia .

A network of European organizations have stepped up pressure on the European Union to condemn human rights crimes in Colombia.

The International Office for Human Rights-Action on Colombia (OIDHACO) called for the European parliament to publicly denounce the human rights situation in the country and demand action from Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

The group cited the murders of 13 labor unionists and human rights defenders in the first three months of 2012.

“These murders show that there are no guarantees for workers defending human rights in Colombia,” said Vincent Vallies, spokesman for OIDHACO, in a statement.

The whole world needs to shout out to Columbia about their human rights attrocities. I am deeply disappointed with Congress and Obama for their failure to hold Columbia accountable for it's appaling record.

3. I'm currently reading "Belching Out the Devil" by Mark Thomas

It's about Coke Cola and how the colluded with their bottlers in Columbia to destroy the unions there.

The book lays out the involvement of the bottling company with a paramilitary group to commit acts of murder to suppress any support of union organization.

I stopped drinking coke about 25 years ago. I had always hated the crap, but at the time, I didn't care for their labor record and that was enough for me to stop drinking any of their product.

This year, I have stopped drinking any kind of soda all together (not that I drank much of that crap anyway, to begin with) and decided to only drink soda I made myself. I now brew my own root beer and ginger ale.

4. Good for you, from another non-Coke person who dropped the habit after a lifetime of drinking it.

Couldn't support it any longer after learning about their ongoing position toward the poor working people of Colombia, the surviving ones, that is.

What a shame a company with Coke's ongoing history has managed to project such a "clean" image to consumers.

5. It's really amazing. Especially when I found out where Fanta came from...

During WWII the Geman bottlers of Coke, couldn't get supplies from Atlanta to continue to make coke. So a clever scientist at the coke bottling plant there created Fanta.

And still it remains today. Born of Nazi origins.
