Chris Christie, Ted Cruz take shots at Jimmy Carter

Source: Politico

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz both took shots at ailing former president Jimmy Carter on Saturday while on the campaign trail for the 2016 Republican nomination.

Christie said that we have the “weakest” president on foreign policy, and that, “[Obama] makes Jimmy Carter look strong,” while addressing an Iowa State Fair crowd from a soapbox.

Cruz, speaking at the Koch-backed Americans For Prosperity event, Defending the Dream, in Columbus, Ohio, repeated a similar version of an attack he delivered Friday at the Iowa State Fair, when he compared the Obama and Carter administrations’ “same failed domestic policies, same misery, stagnation and malaise, same feckless and naïve foreign policy.”

Carter revealed on Thursday that melanoma had spread to his brain and that he would begin radiation treatment immediately.

Christie's an asshole and makes no bones about it, so no comment there.

Canuck Cruz, on the other hand, goes around with his wingnutty poppy and proclaims himself the epitome of Christianity on earth.

Jimmy Carter embodies Christianity at any given second in his life than a sanctimonious phony like Cruz could hope to be in his entire lifetime.

And, last I checked, the "weak" Carter brokered the Camp David accords, ending decades of strife between Israel and Egypt. And he got the hostages home from Iran without dropping a single bomb, despite GOP attempts to creit Reagan for events that occurred before his swearing in.

Compare the GOP reaction to Carter with how they expected everyone to react to Reagan's Alzheimer's announcement. Conservatives used the occasion to proclaim Ronnie above any and all criticism, and guys like Grover Norquist took advantage of his illness to begin the Reagan Legacy Project, in which they lobbied to transform a president who left office as the butt of jokes into the rightwing equivalent of Kennedy.

Republicans have tried in vain to make Carter's name into a slur, because they, know, deep down, that Saint Ronnie's legacy is empty, and feel that the only way they can build Reagan up is to tear Carter down and blame him for the mess he inherited from conservative icons Nixon and Ford.

Carter could have started a war with Iran over the hostages or bombed them or some other militaristic BS.

Reagan could have invaded Lebanon after the Marine barracks bombing.

Both apparently knew it would be a clusterfuck.

infuriates me. In a thousand lifetimes they couldn't do 1/10th of the positive uplifting constructive things Carter has done for others. It's just another measure of the man's greatness that he isn't concerned by the likes of THEM.

is that during the time he might have been thinking about it, he was, for sure, building homes or causing them to be built with other people.

Doing things for others.

The measure of his greatness was that he did something about the object of his concern. That makes all the difference.

misguided rightwingers. One goes back 50 years to junior high days and the other is a distant relative. I mostly ignore their political stuff figuring they watch too much Faux News and don't know any better. Anyhow, both have refrained from making any negative comments about Jimmy Carter. Rather, they have posted that they are keeping him and his family in their thoughts. If those two can set aside the partisan shit on behalf of an elderly man suffering from cancer, what the fuck is wrong with Christie and Cruz? Just a couple of soulless assholes gleefully demonstrating their inhumanity. Truly the lowest of the low.

Christie and Cruz are little more than Lilliputians compared with him.

They have no kindness in their hearts at all and hate those who do. Carter showed the world what a genuine, caring person is and they can't stand it that he upstages both of them by miles. They aren't fit to breathe the same air. Both are totally despicable politicians, drowning in their own hate and bile. I hate them both since I am not nearly as good a person as President Carter.
