did anyone else feel it. It must have been on or near the Hayward fault. I grew up in house that was built on top of that fault. Our dog is still agitated.

On edit-- My dogs were sleeping on the sofa next to me. They leaped up & I spilled my coffee. They still seem nervous. Now for the aftershocks to come. . . .

(7,968 posts)I lived and worked out there for 8 years. I know the Hayward fault is expected to slip big next. Be careful and prepared!

(53,410 posts)Piedmont is actually embedded within Oakland so it was close. It's unusual to feel it here in the hills but it's the Hayward fault and I'm right on it, so to speak.
My cat freaked out and ran to hide. But it was mostly just a powerful short jolt. It was over very quickly and I doubt any damage happened. BART automatically shut down, but started up pretty quickly. No damage.
My cat has been nervously looking everywhere for the culprit. It's his first earthquake.

The aftershocks must be unnerving.
