Before GOP 2016er Ben Carson was slamming fetal tissue research, the neurosurgeon was conducting studies on fetal tissues himself.
According to a blog post by OB/GYN Jen Gunter that was highlighted by Buzzfeed, Carson participated in a 1992 study that relied on "two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation.
Gunter, also a well known science writer, posted a picture of the study bearing Carson's name on her blog.
After an anti-abortion group began releasing last month "sting" videos claiming to show that Planned Parenthood was profiting off the sale of fetal tissues to researchers, Carson came out against the practice.

Ben Carsons outrageous Planned Parenthood hypocrisy has performed research on aborted fetal brain tissue
Carson told Fox News that fetuses were human at 17 weeks -- the same age as those he performed research on
SCOTT ERIC KAUFMAN
Not even a full day after GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson told Fox News Neil Cavuto that the abortion industrial complex known as Planned Parenthood was designed to collect fetal tissue and control the black population, BuzzFeeds Virginia Hughes reports that Carson and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins actually used fetal tissue in a 1992 study about the development of the brains ventricles.
As Dr. Jen Gunter noted on her blog, Carson has repeatedly claimed that theres no research that cant be done without fetal tissue, and that the promise of fetal tissue research has been exaggerated, while the results have very much under-delivered.
On The Kelly File last month, Carson spoke of the humanity of fetuses at 17 weeks, saying youve got a nice little nose and little fingers and hands and the hearts beating. It can respond to environmental stimulus. How can you believe that thats just an irrelevant mass of cells? Thats what they want you to believe, when in fact it is a human being.
That he specified the 17th week of gestation in his conversation with Kelly is significant, given that in his 1992 study Colloid Cysts of the Third Ventricle: Immunohistochemical evidence for nonneuropithelial differentiation the brain and nasal cavity tissues were obtained from two fetuses aborted at the ninth and 17th week of gestation.
As Dr. Gunter pointed out, this fact might be inconvenient for Ben Carson the fringe Republican presidential candidate, but it was de rigueur for Ben Carson the celebrated Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon.

(10,056 posts)There is no 'profit' or 'sale' of fetuses.
The M$M reporting on this has been a fucking joke.

(5,751 posts)Here is what he did in 1992:
"Carson participated in a 1992 study that relied on "two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation.
And here is what he said in July, 2015:
At 17 weeks, youve got a nice little nose and little fingers and hands and the hearts beating It can respond to environmental stimulus," Carson said on Fox News, as Buzzfeed noted. "How can you believe that thats just an irrelevant mass of cells? Thats what they want you to believe, when in fact it is a human being."
So in his own words, he complicit in the murder of a human being in 1992.

(8,717 posts)As a doctor, in general, and his specific specialization, he has directly benefited from this type of research field.
If we are going to start splitting hairs on what is and is not ethical medical research than we just as well go back to blood-letting and trepanning.
Medical research has had to do everything from steal bodies from morgues to inject people with diseases, on purpose, to help find cures.
Yes, there are limits, like when Quakers Oats and MIT did a study that involved giving radation-spiked oatmeal to handicap and mentally ill children: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1997-12-31/news/1997365029_1_quaker-oats-mit-researchers
Medical research can be an ugly thing, like sausage, don't ask unless you really want to know the answer.
