NBC ends suspension of Brian Williams
Source: The Hill
The former NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor who was suspended without pay after he admitted in February that a story he recounted several times about coming under enemy fire while aboard a helicopter in Iraq was false will begin his new position as an MSNBC breaking news anchor next month, CNN Money reported Tuesday.
An MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to ITK that Williams will be rejoining the network sometime in September, indicating no firm date has been set.
I am fully aware of the second chance I have been given. I dont intend to squander it, Williams told Matt Lauer on the "Today" show in June.
That same month, veteran reporter Lester Holt was named as the replacement anchor of Nightly News."

(9,474 posts)should have gotten that job when Brian Williams got it. Holt's always been a better journalist.
I thought that when Wms was named. Glad to see Lester end up with it.

Good for Lester. And good for the Peacock, whose news division has been through its rockiest year in its history thanks to the Brian Williams debacle and the MSNBC meltdown. Holt was thought by many (including me) to simply be a placeholder until someone else with more appeal and pizazz could be lured to the position. Turns out audiences simply want someone they can trust without the bells and whistles. In the case of Holt, theres not only credibility, but an intangible they dont teach at Big Boy Anchor School:
The ability to make a story feel more important. Its not something that can be quantified or really described. For Holt, its just something for that comes from being in the business for 19 years with CBS and another 15 with NBC. Thats experience very few have in a business that always tries to go younger, flashier and/or in pursuit the bigger name. Holt is now the first African-American to solo anchor a national nightly newscast in a full-time capacity.

(3,426 posts)I hope there is room where Brian's going,I've had this dream twice now and it ends up the same way.
There is this bus, strange looking bus with a weird bus driver wearing a funny hat, he opens the front door
as I am standing there in the cold and he says, sorry lady that it has to be this bus , I'm just paid to keep it rolling.
Then the door slams shut and the bus starts to roll. Than I wake up !
I think I might have been trumped !

(30,765 posts)They knew this never happened. They may have encouraged him to embellish his story, for the sake of ratings. At the very least, they kept quiet until they could no longer get away with it.

(3,426 posts)Sensationalism sells and that is what keeps the ratings up and keeps the competitive game on track. And that's the dirty secret . Thing of it is it is no secret. They all do it and profit by it. Think about it, what if Brian did a tell all book asking for forgiveness by it. Surely such a book would never make it to public domain .But than there's Brian's mouth. A sit com or occasional guest appearances on talk shows leading to a game show host opening ! Brian's corner on CNN !
Nope they decided to reconcile the marriage- forever bed fellows they are.
Yep NBC and Brian forever until whenever.
But at the same time imagine reading Brian's twinki defense ,telling all about the sociopathic aspects of being in the news business !
He could have a co writer by the name of lord Murdoc Indeed the dirty business of the news from inside the inside scoop.
He could rat them all out !

(264 posts)Back in 1994 the NBC show Dateline rigged up a fake explosion 'demonstrating' how a GM truck was flawed. GM sued NBC and won an on air 3 minute apology from the network in prime time. Why NBC allowed this 'news' show to continue after this fiasco is beyond me. Apparently the network sold out many years ago......
