Bernie Sanders secures first endorsement from national trade union: National Nurses United

Source: The Guardian

Bernie Sanders will receive his first endorsement from a national trade union on Monday, throwing significant new organisational muscle behind a Democratic presidential candidate who is challenging Hillary Clinton’s natural support in the labour movement but lags far behind her in campaign infrastructure.

National Nurses United, which has 185,000 members nationally and is the profession’s largest representative, plans to announce its backing for Sanders at a rally with him in Oakland, California.

The decision of its executive council to announce a formal endorsement follows a poll of members said to show widespread backing for his more radical policies on healthcare and social inequality.

(snip)
DeMoro would not disclose the internal polling numbers but said the three recent surveys represented a “pretty significant sampling” of the union’s members and she was “stunned at the level and depth of enthusiasm for Bernie”.

Ahead of L.A. visit, Sanders captures support of National Nurses United
(snip)
National Nurses United praised Sanders for his “uncompromised activism” in its endorsement at an Oakland gathering, ahead of his trip to Los Angeles where he’s set to hold a nighttime rally at Memorial Sports Arena.

“We believe the next president should represent the people from all steps in life,” RoseAnn DeMoro, the union’s executive director, said in an interview. “He’s real. He’s authentic. That’s why we’re supporting him.”

DeMoro said the 2016 Democratic primary should not be a “coronation” of Clinton, who in an average of several national polls holds a substantial lead over Sanders.

“He has a proven legislative record” when it comes to progressive causes, DeMoro said of Sanders, an independent who has served in Congress since 1991.

because he threatens the status quo. And you're gonna think that's a bad thing. But it's not.

Bernie has the people on his side. There are more of us than you.

But good try.

People are tired of being broke. The only way Jeb! wins is if the right wing is in control of enough voting machines in toss-up states.

if they didn't work with him? Obama tries too hard to please everyone. Bernie has a history of working against the status quo and 20+ years in Congress with those MF's. He knows how to deal with them.

While we Sanders supporters have a boatload of work ahead of us I notice one important thing - Hillary is trending down while Bernie is trending up. That gives me a lot of hope!
