NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) The state's top prosecutor was charged Thursday with leaking secret grand jury information and lying about her actions under oath.
Attorney General Kathleen Kane leaked information to a political operative to pass to the news media "in hopes of embarrassing and harming former state prosecutors she believed, without evidence, made her look bad," Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said at a news conference announcing the charges.
Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected attorney general in Pennsylvania, was charged with perjury, obstruction and abuse of office.
"No one is above the law, not even the chief law enforcement officer of the state of Pennsylvania," Ferman said.

(14,449 posts)I am glad they are getting this situation taken care of and let the chips fall where they do. I just wish Texas, Wisconsin and New Jersey were as diligent with their republican crooks.
Well, everything's bigger in Texas! At least that's what my Texas relatives tell me....
I wish they'd get on it too, for all of us.

(17,200 posts)I had hopes of the woman. And I live in Montco. The article is odd, though, since it seems to take for granted that she is guilty of the crime for which she is being charged. I thought that was supposed to be a no-no in journalism. (The second paragraph quotes DA Ferman, but does not put "leaked information" in quotes, which would indicate that this is factual, not just Ferman's allegation)

As for her and Hillary, I don't know how these politicians, with tens of thousands
of pages to read and files to keep, with dozens of staff .......how do they keep
the classified and un-classified, the grand jury stuff from the courtroom stuff ...
what a nightmare.
Even some members of Congress occasionally let slip with a tidbit that just about
leaks classified info.

(5,557 posts)I wanted her to go after Corbett and the widespread corruption in this state.
But instead she played games, the worst being the shutdown of an investigation into a number of corrupt officials in Philly. Local prosecutors picked up the case and got a number of guilty pleas. Showing support for other members of the party is one thing, but shutting down investigations to protect rotten apples is unacceptable.

(43,173 posts)so the establishment is not happy, or maybe they are today.
The proof is in the pudding, and it's her time to answer these charges.
Not only a Democrat but not from the power center of suburban Philadelphia,
which in the legal sense is probably mostly Republican. She's from
Lackawanna County, locale of the 19th Century Molly McGuires.
