Report: Joe Biden considered stepping down after Beau's death
Source: Politico
Joe Biden, distraught and heartbroken over his son Beau Bidens death, considered stepping down as vice president, according to a New York Times story.
According to the Times, Biden told people he considered stepping down in order to help his grieving family after Beau, 46, died in May from brain cancer. But sources also told the Times that the vice president never became too serious about resigning.
Biden returned to work less than two weeks after his sons death.
On Sunday, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd reported that Beau urged his father to make a third run for the White House. The vice president was reportedly speaking with family members and even donors about jumping into the 2016 contest.

(67,782 posts)THIS should have been the headline, also in the piece - "Sources also told the Times that the vice president never became too serious about resigning."
If he never was too serious about it, WHY bring it up at all (not the OP, the freaking Times)?

(27,315 posts)Who are these friends who worry so much? None is named. The only people who are named are saying platitudes.
Paired with a politico article reminding people of some positions Biden supposedly took in the 1970, this raises a lot of questions. Some people are making a lot of efforts dissuading Biden to enter this race.

(59,504 posts)and there is little mystery whose supporters are doing this.
However, you wonder if smearing Biden is a good way to dissuade him.

(20,763 posts)You have an incredibly demanding, important, sensitive job that affects the well-being and function of many other people and institutions.
You and your entire family are devastated by the death of a child- your spouse is grieving deeply, other family members are in pain, and you yourself are profoundly feeling the terrible loss.
What kind of intelligent, conscientious adult wouldn't think, "Can I be there for the family I love who are in terrible pain and deal with my own grief, AND keep performing well at my very important job? Which one do I chuck if push comes to shove?"
Well, DUH.
So... this is news, because....
Joe Biden is human?
Wow, who knew?

(92,366 posts)sources" tell them that Joe is going to run, and some folks then thought that deserved an LBN attention, this is only a response to that LBN. Fair is fair, no?

(33,018 posts)the worlds' hardest job. I, too, would think about stepping down if I lost a child. I admire Mr Biden a great deal, I'd be pleased to vote for him again. Maureen Dowd is a total jerk about the Clintons and is doing her best to smudge HRC by dragging in Biden.

(9,314 posts)That is why one should wait at least six months before making any major decisions.
I know the family is very close, but I am sure Joe Biden knew that resigning from the Vice Presidency would be something his son would have never wanted. I wish Joe Biden and his family nothing but healing vibes and eventual peace with dealing with this tremendous loss. I don't think they will ever get over it, but instead will learn how to live with it. So sad.
