Cash-strapped Rick Santorum campaign reshuffles staff

Source: Politico

Several top staffers have left Rick Santorum’s campaign to create a new super PAC, a move spurred by the cash-strapped candidate’s anemic fundraising.

Campaign manager Terry Allen, Iowa state coordinator Jon Jones and digital strategist Steve Hilliard — Allen’s son-in-law — departed several weeks ago, leaving the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucuses without a campaign manager and raising questions about whether Santorum can last until Iowa votes on Feb. 1 next year.

The reshuffling comes on the heels of another key departure — Karen Fesler, a prominent Iowa activist who had been aiding Santorum’s efforts in the state. She now serves as Rick Perry’s Iowa co-chair, the latest of a number of prominent Santorum activists who helped propel him to GOP runner-up status in 2012 but aligned with different candidates in 2016.

The former Pennsylvania senator had among the worst fundraising hauls of the entire presidential field, raising only about $600,000 and spending about 60 percent of that in his first fundraising quarter as a presidential candidate.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the #2 candidate in the 2012 cycle was the first to crash and burn?

just 10 cents each? that's all it would take to fill the warchest for someone who devoted their life to the republican career of wannabe Pres!

he can find a way to charge the Penn Hills School District to pay for some of his expenses. After all, he does live there, doesn't he? Besides, it wouldn't be the first time he screwed them over.

Really, why does this idiot think he even has a chance? Just the delusion that he has is enough reason not to vote for him, not counting the fact that he is an idiot!

Why does he run? Why do we keep reporting on his failing efforts? Who gives a f**k about him?

Very well said. Remember when they sent reporters to his Penn Hills place, and they found old mail and newspapers laying around the deserted house?

Probably didn't have the "campaign funds" to have the paper and mail transferred to his $2,000,000 home in Virginia.

17. Here is a 2006 DU thread about how Santorum lost his temper when questioned about his domicile.

From the above link:

. . .

In May 2006, Santorum became unglued on KQV radio over the issue of his residency. Santorum began repeatedly yelling at host P.J. Maloney about his unsubstantiated claims that someone had trespassed on his property. Santorum yelled at the host, “quit making excuses for him, P.J.!” When Maloney responded that he was not trying to make excuses for anyone, Santorum continued to yell “all you’re doing is making excuses!” The two minute exchange continued to be heated with Santorum yelling or raising his voice throughout.

. . .

I remember listening in 2006 to a recording of the two-minute exchange between Santorum and KQV radio host P. J. Maloney. Santorum was enraged that the original reporter (who had broken the story questioning Santurum's domicile) had walked up on the front porch of his Pennsylvania house to observe evidence that it was not actively occupied. Santorum was most indignant over the fact that the reporter, from his vantage point on the porch, peered into a window of the house to make observations suggestive that the modest house was unoccupied, all in spite of Santorum's repeated proclamations that it was the domicile for him, his wife, and their several children.

As I recall, at that time Santorum and his family were residing in an expensive house in Maryland or Virginia which he had purchased through a sweet-heart mortgage deal written up by a banker who was Republican loyalist.

I think at the time Santorum was living in Loudon County, VA. There's no way that little house in Penn Hills would have been able to hold the entire Santorum family! Then they have the nerve to have the taxpayers of Penn Hills School District and the state of PA pay for his brood's cyber schooling!

In the piece' de resistance, lil' Ricky proceeded to blame the Casey campaign for spying on his "home"!!

What a jerk.

A lot of workers abandoning a candidate when it doesn't look like they're going to get anywhere then finding work with another one. Not much loyalty. Do we see this with democratic candidates?
