FBI: Former state rep handed out narcotics
Source: The Detroit Free Press
Dr. Paul DeWeese was once a high-ranking politician in the Michigan House of Representatives, and an ER doctor on the side.
But in the past couple of months, his career has taken an astonishing turn for the worse.
On July 18, his medical license was suspended. A few weeks earlier, a group of FBI agents showed up at his office in Lansing and hauled away patients files.
They were looking for evidence to support what theyve alleged in court documents: that the former House majority whip essentially served as a narcotics supplier to more than 20 patients who received little to no examination before being handed large prescriptions. Many then abused the drugs for a high, and at least a few turned around and dealt the drugs to others.

(22,651 posts)I have to find the mandates. I think, One was to stop people, crossing state lines to visit multi Doctors for rx drugs? and another was to stop Veteran hospitals buying more wholesale oxycodone then there even were Vets needing that medicine.?
Then all this time were there elected officials addicted to codeine and dealing rx drugs in our House?
So now we could have some of our Leadership addicted and cut off supply on July 18? what will happen when they run out of codeine? I think we need to know who the addicted are and get them some help and time off from work. They should resign if they're in leadership positions.

(3,520 posts)about how this guy "misused" the drug. Of course, Doctors must have a higher bar set. But the primary response to an abuse of drugs should be to offer help. He's accused of not giving a long enough examination? Really? If people abuse drugs "for a high", so what? Who is that hurting? I just don't see the criminality in taking a pill or smoking a plant or eating a chemical...it's all personal. We've gone off the deep end with drug criminalization.
Finally, as I said, Doctors must have a higher bar set. I mean simply that doctors must keep records. If a distributor is making a bundle off of selling drugs to addicts, all of which come from a doctor (also making money), that would be an illegal racket. It's more about the money, deception, and racketeering rather than the drug. That does not appear to be the case here.
