1 dead, several injured in tent collapse in suburban Chicago

WOOD DALE, Ill. (AP) — One person was killed and up to 20 injured on Sunday when a tent collapsed during a brief storm at a festival in a suburb of Chicago.

Art Woods, a city council member from the suburb of Wood Dale, said three of the victims were injured seriously and taken to local hospitals.

The incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. when high winds and hail blew the tent from its moorings, said Craig Celia, a spokesman for Wood Dale, which is about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. The remainder of the festival's final day has been cancelled, he said.

Photos of the scene showed police and fire officials holding up a sheet over a body and chairs, tables and other debris strewn on the grass near where the tent collapsed.

Quite the lightening show today here too in northern Illinois
Huge cumulonimbus incus(Anvil clouds) lined up like they were on an assembly line shooting bolts in the sky as they moved .Might be biggest I have ever seen.
I was out in an open area took it all in for a few minutes with a friend. I said goodbye , we got in our cars and I took off for home before it got any closer

I live 25 miles southwest of Chicago and a front has come through with lightning thunder and small (pea sized) hail. It is still raining steady and rolling thunder.

3. we got hit on the north side, too.

trees just ripped out of the ground EVERYWHERE.
across the street a huge maple fell and damaged 2 houses.
driving around it was hard to find streets that were not blocked. lots of hail, too.
