What what I see, the gunshot triggers the reflex of DuBose (driver) to hit the pedal and the car takes off. Not sure if anyone can confirm.

The officer should have just radioed for assistance and requested an APB to look for the car. There was no need to kill the man.

(1,712 posts)Look at the Cincinatti paper for more on what the prosecutor said. I have never heard a prosecutor make such a hard statement about a cop before. He has straight out called BS on any possibility that the cop was dragged, and said that even if DuBose was trying to leave he should have just let it go.

(4,033 posts)There was an officer involved shooting in 2001 where a Cincinnati police officer shot an unarmed teenaged black youth who was running away. This sparked the largest urban riots in the US since the 1992 LA riots. In the aftermath, the Cincinnati PD put in place a number new protocols designed to provide better training to its officers and to improve relations with the minority communities. This approach seems to have worked fairly well.
Even the parents of DuBois have praised the city for how they have handled the shooting. Other places could take a page from Cincinnati play-book. At least we are trying and giving more than lip-service to trying to improve things.

(2,122 posts)Dubose says at about 1:17 "..but it's not illegal to have no front license in Pennsylvania" and the officer, wrongly, "Yes it is". If that was his "justification" for the stop, then he had no probable cause for the stop in the first place.

(51,569 posts)Cop was in absolutely no danger. No defensible reason to blow the guy's face off.
And he pulled him over for not having a front license plate. Unfuckingbelievable.
