Calais migrants crisis deepens as man killed when 1,500 try to storm Channel Tunnel

Source: The Telegraph

Some 3,000 people, largely from Ethiopia, Sudan and Afghanistan, are camped in Calais in the hope of reaching Britain, according to an official count conducted at the beginning of July.

Benard Cazeneuve, the French interior minister, on Tuesday held talks with Mrs May on the issue.

BREAKING: One migrant died last night after at least 1,500 migrants desperate to reach Britain tried to storm the Channel Tunnel in Calais, operator Eurotunnel has said.

The death comes after 2,000 migrants tried to gain entry to Eurotunnel's French terminal on Monday night, causing chaos for cross-Channel travel.

1. I think this is one of the reasons Cameron wants to re-negotiate the terms of belonging to the EU.

He is busy cutting benefits to the folks who live in the UK right now, he does not want more of them.

I am starting to think that the free trade part of the EU was great, but the rest is sort of crumbling. Well, Merkel enjoys controlling the euro, there is that. But the open borders thing should have come with assistance for those countries inundated with immigrants.

undocumented migration, not less. It's either that or rationing/prioritizing benefits/services.

... and are really crap at keeping track (*) of people who should be deported.

Combine that with the French lack of interest in keeping unwanted immigrants
in *their* country, it's really not that surprising that the Channel Tunnel is a
bit of a "leaky" fence.

(*) Yes, part of that is due to the immigrant communities "closing ranks" to
keep Uncle Abu's second cousin's brother-in-law under cover but the biggest
part is that the government agencies are simply incompetent.

11. And is the housing shortage in the UK as bad as I hear?

If council housing is being given to immigrants while citizens have to wait for years, it's bound to stir up resentments.

Once the droughts and other massive weather disasters take hold in Africa, those numbers will increase by two maybe three orders of magnitude.

that is exactly what they are talking about. And it's absolutely appalling the extent to which we are ignoring it.

And the game is pretty much over at this point. The feedback loops have begun and the polar caps are past the tipping point. American climate scientists are leaving the country because of the constant harassment and death threats, so soon we will have no expertise to draw on when the populace finally "gets it".
