Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker visits Pat’s and Geno’s amid protests, bad cheesesteak orders

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

Wisconsin Gov. and presidential candidate Scott Walker stopped by Pat’s and Geno’s in South Philly today for a campaign event, and, perhaps not surprisingly, things appear to have not gone all that well. First off, it appears that when Walker showed up, he cut his way into the line at Geno’s, which legitimately and understandably upset some members of the lunch crowd:

Then, when Walker got to the front of the line, he ordered his steak with American cheese and no onions. For many Philadelphians, that’s strike No. 2: Then, over at Pat’s following his second steak, Walker reportedly left his trash on a table in the outdoor seating area, apparently expecting the steak shop to send out a member of the wait staff (which does not exist) to clean it up:

So, bad looks all around for Walker. But at least these intrepid Philadelphians were there to give him what-for: No word yet, of course, about which shop Gov. Walker preferred. But given the history of Pat's and Geno's, you can probably guess which was his favorite:

A real danger to modern human civilization. A threat to the Age of Enlightenment. A threat to the republic.
He is the path to libertarianism; the return of Landed Gentry wielding power over a servile class.

You couldn't hallucinate him, not if you used Psilocybin mushrooms grown hydroponically on radioactive anti-freeze.

Coming into deep dark blue Philly - and then South Philly of all places. I can't believe those signs!

They rarely show people what it looks like down there. Here's a good view of both places (at 9th & Passyunk, which is sortof a weird diagonal intersection) -

"9th Street" (which is what we locals call it) in South Philly is the quintessential "Italian Market" with all sorts of food and merchandise stores.

cheese whiz on a cheesesteak. I would walk into any of the places I went and would ask for a cheesesteak with extra onions. What I got was steak, american cheese and a lot of fried onions on a hoagie roll. I never heard of cheese whiz on a steak.

thought process of a low-information voter poised to punch a ballot.

Maybe not, but I don't think your average undecided is going to lean toward Walker because of this.

If an undecided in the crowd were to ask either of the sign-bearers pictured what their deal was, I'd bet they could give cogent, informed responses as to Walker's record.

Walker's stances are so appalling, so viciously opposed to the safety and well-being of workers, so suggestive of a mindset that would wreck both education and worker rights that no puerile signs are called for. Write what's true: that he equated working people exercising their constitutional right to peaceably assemble for the redress of grievances to ISIS, who executes journalists, starves minorities, violates women.

Each part of the country is going to have its own traditional regional food that a staffer could tell you about in one minute as the bus or car or whatever is pulling up to your stop so you don't come off as a rube. I'm hoping when he goes to Chicago he orders a hot dog and puts ketchup on it.

Reminds me of the time in October, 2006, when Jeb Bush went to prop up Santorum in Pittsburg; Mr. Arrogant blew some United Steelworkers guys a kiss, and they chased him into a broom closet.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush said he was taking exception to reports that he hid in a closet to avoid protesters during a visit to Pittsburgh last Friday.

Bush said it was actually a boiler room.

.....

He said he had to seek safety in the boiler room when he came across several anti-Republican protesters on his way to a fundraising event for U.S. Senator Rick Santorum.

Bush said he never had a concern for his safety, adding that he was taller and more "burly" than most of those who chased after him.

Bush said he didn't stop and confront the protesters because they weren't looking for dialogue.

He said they seemed to be angry and needed some therapy.

Bush added that they were shouting obscenities that their mothers would not have been proud of.

"He was quickly getting out of the way and not wanting to engage us," said Jon Vandenburgh, one of the protesters, who also is a researcher for the United Steelworkers.

Once in the subway station, Mr. Bush scurried to the escalators and descended to the mezzanine level, Mr. Vandenburgh said.
