US Mulls LA Bid For 2024 Olympics As Boston Walks Out

Source: Agence France-Presse

The International Olympic Committee said Tuesday it was "confident" the US could find a "strong candidate" to host the 2024 Games, despite Boston pulling out of the contest shortly before a mid-September nomination deadline.

Latest update : 2015-07-28

"We are confident that the US will make the right choice and that they can still put forward a strong candidate by 15 September," the IOC said in a statement from Kuala Lumpur, where it is currently meeting.

Boston announced Monday it was no longer seeking to host the 2024 Games due to lack of public support, and the US Olympic Committee (USOC) now has August to find a possible replacement, with Los Angeles having shown interest.

"USOC have made it clear that they would still very much like to see a US city host the Olympic Games 2024," the IOC statement continued.

"We are still in the invitation phase and this is exactly what this phase is for, to allow NOCs (national Olympic committees) and cities to explore a possible bid."

They need to get those sort of issues solved before hosting an Olympics which will have millions of visitors and athletes that will put a further strain on an already terrible water shortage.

The IOC and FIFA are rackets
They get the profits and expect the city to fawn over them in every way possible at every stage

New Jersey got hosed by N.F.L. last year.

Then add the extortion of taxpayers by M.L.B., N.F.L., N.H.L. and N.B.A. every time the owners want a new stadium at taxpayer expense.

Why just a year later they would want to take the massive step down to the Olympics after hosting the third or fourth most presrigious event in golf is confounding.

Plus, where would they host the golf? Bel-Air? Ha. Riviera already has the Northern Trust. Hillcrest will never...might interfere with oil production! Rustic Canyon?

The air quality is much improved due to strict California regulations. Why don't you come out and visit and check it out?

Not saying I don't believe you and your state/a couple of cities(I really do want to visit San Diego, Oakland/LA/Watts, SF) is on the 2do list.

12. Grew up in NYC. live in SoCal now, been to China several times, China is a million times worse

than ANY city in the USA...

I am sure there is air pollution in SoCal and NYC right now, there has to be with all these cars, but its A LOT CLEANER than when I was younger. In the old days, the weather report on the local news had the next day's "smog rating"... Not sure when they dropped that feature (hello Clean Air Act, MF the pugs like Walker trying to roll back these Fed Regs) but it is not part of the weather report anymore.

Guess where I saw that same type of info given out a year ago?

China

No comparison.

At least until they repeal all these "pesky for biz" regulations that"hinder growth"

We already have the facilities, just bring in the people. It would a nice even to attend and would also be a boost to the economy.

L.A. would be a much better face for the games anyway. I've spent time in both cities and the people of Boston are fairly rude and unwelcoming. Boston had no business even bidding for the games in the first place.

15. Olympics in LA would mean better public transportation for LA

Part of the bid would have to include accelerating the light rail and subway plans for the city. It would be the only way to get people around.

So, for that reason alone, I'd be for it.
