Rand Paul plans to keep pushing to defund U.S. Planned Parenthood

Source: Yahoo! News / Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential contender Rand Paul said on Sunday he plans to push Congress to cut federal funding for the non-profit reproductive healthcare organization Planned Parenthood in a debate over its treatment of aborted fetal tissue.

"I think the time is now to discuss whether taxpayer dollars should be going to such a gruesome procedure," Paul, a Kentucky senator, said on Fox News Sunday. "People are outraged by this and I think the American people deserve to have a vote on it."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has started a fast-track process to bring Paul's legislation for a vote soon, McConnell's spokesman told Reuters on Sunday.

Republicans have rallied around secretly recorded videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing ways to perform abortions to preserve fetal tissue for research, as well as the costs involved. The videos were filmed by anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress.

7. Rand and Ron have origins in the Constitution Party, not the Libertarian Party

The Constitution Party are mostly dominionists homeschoolers, neoconfederates, and survivalists.

Anyway, I suspect the techboy love affair with the Pauls is over now.

What PP is doing is LEGAL. PP is making little profit because VERY FEW PP clinics do tissue donations to begin with. PP is not the only abortion provider that donates tissue. How about HOSPITALS? Acquisition and distribution of fetal tissue/organs is strictly regulated by federal and state laws. LAWS PASSED BY CONGRESS. Same goes for ABORTION PROCEDURES. Let us not OVERLOOK that in the debate. Outrage over this in Congress when some of the same congressmen passed the law in the first place....HYPOCRITES. It is not like PP is willy nilly doing WHATEVER IT WANTS. They have to keep DETAILED RECORDS of each procedure and donations made. Those records must be passed on to the entities that receive the donations because they are REGULATED too. If PP were GUILTY of actually selling fetal tissue THEN the labs, research facilities and university medical labs WOULD BE EQUALLY GUILTY OF A CRIME. Every aspect of a tissue donation is documented and those records are subject to periodic AUDITS. The GAO audits PP and NHI will investigate alleged abuses. The Pro-Life movement has been peddling allegations that PP is SELLING fetal tissue for decades and Congress HAS INVESTIGATED THIS back in 1999. What happened? Fifteen years later.....same allegations. The Pro-Lie movement has been producing these same "UNDERCOVER" videos ALLEGEDLY showing crimes. These current videos produced by Center for Medical Progress are not NEW. Even if the people in the videos were talking about illegal activities in relation to PP, that in its self, IS NOT A CRIME. You can be arrested for trying to bribe someone, soliciting a murder or threatening someone, but what these women are saying is not a crime. They can't be arrested for what they are saying even if you believe they are discussing things YOU think sound illegal. These videos are NOT evidence and are not ADMISSIBLE in a court of law. Bill O'Reilly asked David D. of Center for Medical Progress, who participates in the two videos released so far why, if they show alleged crimes, hasn't he turned them over to the authorities. He made the excuse that they will do so at a later date. BULLSHIT.....that will never happen because it would be a felony to FALSIFY evidence to try to affect an arrest. This is about helping the GOP to de-fund Planned Parenthood and stop abortion. Even if the GOP has enough votes to de-fund, Obama has stated he will veto the bill.

11. I worked for PP here in CT for 6 years and I must say I never heard anyone, esp.

a doctor, say the stuff that Dr. Mary Gatter said, "I want a Lamoborghini..." and joke that way. Our doctors at the CT affiliate were respectful and very caring to all patients. Granted, I never heard them talk about fetal tissue donations but nobody talked that way...I just can't understand why GAtter, who has a long career with PP, would pop off that way, esp. knowing there were plenty of enemies out there ready for a "gotcha."

There has to be some new training around just such plots as this one. The clinical staff need to have the national office coordinate an effort for all affiliates to be on the lookout for more of this. These people are the mortal enemies of women's reproductive health.
