California AG To Review Planned Parenthood 'Sting' Videos
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) California Attorney General Kamala Harris said Friday that she plans to review two undercover videos released by anti-abortion activists aimed at discrediting Planned Parenthood's procedures for providing fetal tissue to researchers, to see if any laws were broken.
Harris announced the move in a letter to four Democratic members of Congress who had requested an investigation, saying she'll use her office's authority to regulate charity organizations to see if the organization that made the videos violated registration or reporting requirements, or broke any other rules. Harris, a Democrat, plans to run for the U.S. Senate in 2016.
"We will carefully review the allegations raised in your letter to determine whether there were any violations of California law," Harris said in the letter to four members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
She said her office will look into "allegations that individuals impersonated corporate officials from a fake biologics company, resulting in the release of secretly filmed videos of Planned Parenthood physicians without their consent."

(11,841 posts)I'm pro choice but the way they talked about "crushing" and body parts was disgusting.
If california is a 1 person consent state then theres nothing that can de done to who ever did the taping. There's also the fact that this was done in public and not private.

(1,245 posts)There could be tax-law types of violations involved in producing something like this.
However, as we all should by now, NOTHING will happen to these people, because Dem Politicians are way too big of WUSSIES to do jack-shit about it.
Plus, there's the ever-present, universal IOKIYAR rule to contend with.
The best that we can hope for from this 'investigation' is a written reprimand, the story of which will be appearing on page C27 of some Sacramento paper, that roughly .2% of the population of the USA will hear/read about.

(11,014 posts)Tissues have to be "processed" in order to isolate cells and grow them in media. A lay person cringes at the descriptions but that is how science is.
Two gastoenterologists talking about colonoscopies at a dinner table may make ordinary people cringe but to them, it is just another scientific discourse.

(17,301 posts)And there is TWO person consent law in California.
So you are only pro choice as long as no one says anything disgusting in public? Fair weather friends need not apply.

(11,841 posts)I dont like listening to a description of a colonoscopy, but I know they're needed. We're talking about parts of a body.
If you're fine with it, thats your prerogative. I just think it couldve been done more tastefully.

(16,399 posts)Thankfully the California AG is a smart woman. Her investigation will likely end up being positive for PP.

(5,668 posts)at least 17 companies on that list I either have a negative opinion or boycott outright. and some extreme pro lifers work for the companies that donate to PP. Although Exxon is very glaring. I don't donate to Komen because oil companies donate. but Exxon? I've boycotted them since Prince William Sound. the longest and earliest company I've ever boycotted or tried to. That's extremely damaging compared to the absurd false videos...

(23,946 posts)It is not just PP being attacked, it is the truth under attack.
Now who do we know as a common enemy that uses lies to attack with rather consistent regulatory?

(43,249 posts)one can expect video from just about anything.
But the press, as well as others, have a responsibility to release the
video in its entirety, and not edit to distort for the purposes of witch
hunts.
Impersonation by the press or private groups is an additional angle.
In an age of government deception and stings it's hard to argue private
people shouldn't do that, after all, where did they learn their techniques?
From the government, the press, and television/movies.
