Judge sends marshals to seize evidence from Sheriff Joe Arpaio

A federal judge has taken a rare move in ordering U.S. Marshals to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on Friday afternoon to retrieve evidence related to a long-running racial-profiling case.

The move came during an emergency hearing Friday, in which a court-appointed monitor told U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow that nearly 1,500 IDs in the Sheriff's Office possession had not been turned over, despite Snow's order for the evidence months ago.

The monitor said the IDs had been slated for destruction, and that sheriff's officials had been told not to volunteer information of their existence.

The Sheriff's Office has additionally been withholding as many as 50 hard drives related to a controversial spinoff investigation, Snow said Friday.

On the very-off chance that the Feds ever try to come to arrest him, there's a decent chance we see a Cliven Bundy style stand-off, only it'll be COPS acting the part of the militia-wannabees ... and we'll end up with a constitutional crisis on our hands.

The USAG's office is likely aware of this, and hence I can see them indicting the guy ... and a GJ perhaps even convicting him ... but they won't actually DO ... shit.
