Hillary's Team Piles On The New York Times For Its Mistaken Email Story
Source: TPM
Hillary Clinton's campaign team and her allies came out swinging Friday against the New York Times as the newspaper backed off its report that the U.S. Justice Department had been asked to open a criminal probe into her private email account.
DOJ said Friday that it did receive a referral regarding the potential compromise of classified information in connection with that email account, but the request was not for a criminal probe.
Nick Merrill, a Clinton campaign spokesman, said the Times story was "false" and accused the newspaper of relying on "partisan" sources for its information:

How can @Politico keep talking about the "prospect of criminal probe" when DOJ said there was NO CRIMINAL REFERRAL

(10,406 posts)They don't care what the truth is as long as they can report the lies and smear Hillary.
I hope the NY Times is proud of itself, the assholes.

(9,148 posts)This is the typical RW Rovian game they have dealt with before. Problem is, Sec Clinton is connected to far more inside the workings of this sort of smear than she was before. As Sec of State she has friends in high places also, and the circle that makes up the inner workings of politics isn't that big.
Team Hillary is comprised of a group of the best attorneys & media sleuths in the Nation, for just this kind of RW predictable B.S.
Team Hillary comes quite prepared for the long haul of this campaign.
Someone is going to tell.

(41,832 posts)UPDATE (3:36 p.m.): Jennifer Werner, a Democratic spokesperson for the Select Committee on Benghazi, told the On Media blog that the State Inspector General "did not ask for any kind of investigation, criminal or otherwise." Werner said the referral "went from the Intelligence Community IG to the FBI."
For that reason, Werner said the Times was wrong to report that two inspectors general had asked the Justice Department to open an investigation.
Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy did not respond to a request for comment.

(9,148 posts)This is just a sample of what's to come, but I trust that Team Hillary has prepared themselves for anything the RW has in their playbook.
This is no more than a power game to the hellish RW, working to dismantle our American governing system.

(7,300 posts)Lucky anyone ever saw the correction. Few ever do. I hate the NYT. While I have my policy differences with Sec. Clinton, their "correction" would not have been needed if basic journalism had been employed instead of their usual HRC slander. As always, repulsive.

(2,707 posts)whitewater, file"gate," travel office, Perot-myth (which they just peddled again yesterday), the media and the NYT ought to be ashamed of themselves.
However, the Clintons do really need to patch things up with the media.

(3,248 posts)Kowtowing to them isn't going to get her any better treatment.
Clintons (and apparently Obama) have finally learned to treat most "news" sources with suspicion. Good for them.

(2,707 posts)and the fairness doctrine needs to be reinstituted already. But its gonna be hard to do that. I think Hillary needs to make an address about the media's treatment of them over the years and call out the lies they've peddled over 23 years. That I think would force the media to try to make nice. She also needs a War Room website like Obama had in 2008. Obama fought back and didn't ignore what was out there, tho I do think reporters were nicer to him than Bill and Hillary. Luckily, I think MSNBC and Washington Post, both who have recently debunked the Perot-lie, the longest lasting one against them and one meant to delegitimize them, can help lead the charge. Hillary could also enlist Obama to help out too, especially given how she's standing by him, which given his middling, but not bad approvals, is a gamble.
